Ilya Kovalchuk taking New Jersey Devils up the standings
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, NHL,
In their last 25 games, the New Jersey Devils have recorded 42 out of a possible 50 points. This is the same team that only managed 22 points in their first 41 games. If the Ilya Kovalchuk nine-figure contract situation from last summer was the definition of “ridiculous,” this current run by the Devils to make an impact in the Eastern Conference must be the meaning of “absurd.”

The doctor is in. Roy Halladay picked up his 15th win of the season on Saturday against the Mets and with that win he brought himself into the top five in all three National League Pitching Triple Crown categories. While the three-and-a-half game margin between the first-place Texas Rangers and second-place LA Angels is the widest gap of any playoff race, the Rangers themselves are 8-2 in their last ten games, the Halos and last-place Mariners are 7-3. While the final team is only 5-5 over their last 10, the Athletics are riding a four-game win streak which is the longest current wining streak in the majors.

The Canucks are heading back to Vancouver for their first home game since Jan. 27 at the formerly-named Canada Hockey Place. The Canucks went 8-5-1 during the trip which, all things considered, is just about what could be hoped for from the road-weary skaters. After Wednesday’s shootout loss to Phoenix, the only thing any Canuck could possibly want is a night in his own bed.

Boucher blowing big break
Posted by Adrien Griffin Categories: Athletes, Editorial, Injuries, NHL,
It’s about time Brian Boucher became Philadelphia’s number one goalie. Boucher has been playing behind newly-acquired Ray Emery for most of the season, but with Emery’s recent muscle tear leaving him off the ice for roughly six weeks, Boucher has been asked to step up and fill in the role as primary net-minder. With Emery out of the picture, Boucher has a chance to prove his worth. However, after a week of tests, Boucher is failing miserably.
