Philadelphia Phillies J.A. Happ: Trade Bait or Keeper?

J.A. HappJ.A. Happ is all over the place lately. The Phillies will likely lose 47-year-old starter Jamie Moyer to the disabled list with an elbow injury, and Happ seems to be the most likely candidate to replace him, but Happ’s name has been linked with several other teams that he’s been shopped to, including the Houston Astros, because the Phillies have shown interest in Roy Oswalt and are willing to part with last year’s NL Rookie of the Year runner up.

Fan backs Santana’s bold claim

Johan SantanaI wrote an opinion story a few days ago about how Mets pitcher Johan Santana blatantly told the media that he was the best pitcher in his division and how that was wrong. A reader left a comment calling me an idiot saying I didn’t know anything about Santana and that he’s the highest paid in his division, as if that warrants him calling himself the best. The reader then said that Santana was asked a stupid question to begin with. Regardless of the ignorance of the commenter’s words, I began wondering if there was, in fact, any merit to his opinions. There aren’t.

NL Rookie of the Year - Chris Coghlan

Chris CoghlanChris Coghlan has achieved something rather unexceptional. He plays for the Florida Marlins and has been chosen as the National League’s 2009 Rookie of the Year. The 24-year-old outfielder is also the third Marlin to win the award in seven years, joining shortstop Hanley Ramirez and lefty starter Dontrelle Willis on the list of top rookies to rise to the top with the Fish, although none of them were originally drafted by Florida. Coghlan was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 18thd round of the 2003 Draft, but did not sign, instead opting to raise his stock. He was ultimately drafted in the first round of the 2006 Draft and signed by Florida.
