Stephen Colbert Starts Twitter War With Senator John Kyl

Stephen Colbert has challenged his nation, and once again Comedy Central viewers have answered… on Twitter.
On his Colbert Report, the host called attention to an argument made by Senate Minority Whip John Kyl (R-Ariz) in which Kyl claimed that 90% of Planned Parenthood’s business is in abortions. Actually, the number is much closer to 3%. By way of correcting the mistake, Kyl’s office released a statement explaining that the Senator’s comment was “not intended to be a factual statement.”

Tweetbot review: New king of the Twitter mountain

We've spent the last half-day or so completely enamored with the latest release from the fine peeps over at Tapbot, Tweetbot. Typically, a new Twitter client isn't anything we would get excited about, as there are probably hundreds out there, and the free Twitter for iPhone does the job well enough anyway. However, we've been impressed with every other app that Tapbot has put out. We're talking about things like Calcbot, Weightbot, Pastebot, and the awesome Convertbot. So when they released Tweetbot after working on it for over a year, we had to check it out.
It's difficult to describe everything that Tweetbot does, but if I had to sum it up with one statement, I'd say "It just makes sense." Oh, and also, it's a joy to use. While the official Twitter app has been suffering from feature bloat (going so far as to try and force a trend bar on us,) Tweetbot is a refreshing throwback to what made Tweetie great in the first place. They've even managed to make lists actually useable and convenient, rather than a clunky add-on, by giving each its own timeline.

Elizabeth Hurley Files for Divorce

Elizabeth Hurley has filed for divorce from estranged husband Arun Nayer. The actress -- who announced her split from the Indian textile heir last year after four years of marriage -- filed papers at London's High Court yesterday, citing Arun's "unreasonable behavior."
Hurley -- who has an eight-year-old son, Damian, from a previous relationship -- and Arun split last year, but the news wasn't made public until after it was revealed she had been romancing Australian cricketer Shane Warne. "Painful, sad days. Arun & I separated for private reasons but FTR (for the record) he has been a great father to our son Damian & will always be in his life. (sic)," she wrote on her Twitter at the time.
However, the 45-year-old beauty initially insisted she had no plans to get divorced: "Bored now of silly speculations: no one is divorcing anyone yet, no one is fighting over money and I have no plans to go to Australia. Enough! (sic)." After news of Elizabeth and Shane's romance was made public, the couple split but rekindled in January, and in February she met his parents, Keith and Bridgette, at the sportsman's Melbourne home. The couple initially parted ways in December after it emerged the cricketer had been sending lewd text messages to another woman while he was romancing Elizabeth.

Rihanna’s new song is sure to please her fans. The singer asked on her Twitter page which artist the fans wanted to hear her work with, and they resoundingly voted Britney Spears.
Spears will be featured on a new track for Rihanna’s S&M Remix -- we’re hearing the song might be out as early as Monday.

American Idol 10: Celebs Sound Off on Pia Toscano Exit

Pia Toscano was so overwhelmed by her ninth-place American Idol elimination, she had to be led off stage by a medic. She’s feeling much better now… but, we can’t say the same for the celebs who have been following her on Twitter. Her early exit has sparked outrage from some of the most surprising sources.
“Don’t have an IDOL habit, but how could the USA vote Pia off?” Tom Hanks tweeted. “I may be done for the season! HANX”
“Are you watching Idol? I am shocked and so sad,” said one-season judge Ellen DeGeneres.

Lindsay Lohan Denies Alcohol Intake, Despite Falling Out of a Bar

As if she didn't have a care in the world, Lindsay Lohan is back on the party scene despite the a looming court date and continued parole stipulations over her head. This time, however, it would seem that even gravity has a problem with the actress.
Lohan exited a New York bar Wednesday night, only to find her hands and knees meeting the pavement.
True to her nature, Lohan was quick to take to the internet to defend her innocence.

Twitter concedes, finally removes Quick Bar from iOS app

After a rather rough start, Twitter on Thursday said it will remove the Quick Bar from its iOS app, which provided users with updates on trending topics.
Though the Quick Bar - referred to by some as the "Dick Bar" after CEO Dick Costolo - had "incredibly high usage metrics," Twitter has opted to remove it from the app rather than continually update it.
"Rather than continue to make changes to the QuickBar as it exists, we removed the bar from the update appearing in the App Store today," Twitter creative director Doug Bowman wrote in a blog post. "We believe there are still significant benefits to increasing awareness of what's happening outside the home timeline."
The Quick Bar was added to the app earlier earlier this month as part of an upgrade that also made it easier to access features like photos, trends, and links. It sat above a user's Twitter feed and displayed one of the days' current trending topics. Tapping the word would take you to a list of recent mentions.

Westboro Baptist Church to Picket Elizabeth Taylor Memorial

The Westboro Baptist Church, an infamously anti-homosexual organization, plans to stage a protest at Elizabeth Taylor’s funeral -- which hasn’t even been scheduled yet.
Margie Phelps, daughter of Pastor Fred Phelps, broke the news via Twitter. She tweeted that “Elizabeth Taylor is in hell as sure as you’re reading this & getting mad as a wet hen. She should've obeyed God. Too late!”
She added that there would be “No RIP,” rest in peace for Taylor, “who spent her life in adultery and enabling proud fags.” She added that “#Westboro will picket funeral!”

Interview: The person who destroyed the NY Times paywall using Twitter

When the New York Times announced its plans for an online subscription model, or "paywall," critics picked it apart almost instantly. It was readily apparent that there were many ways around it. For example, the publication offers free access to stories posted on social-media sites. Very quickly someone set up @FreeNYT, a Twitter feed that aggregates every Times Twitter posting, effectively giving away all the articles for free. The Times has asked Twitter to suspend the account.
The person behind @FreeNYT, who prefers to remain anonymous, agreed to talk to PCMag.
Do you think the Times will be able to shut you down?
@FreeNYT: I don't believe the Times will be able to shut me down, as it's a rather laughable claim that by simply aggregating their own Twitter feeds into a list I've engaged in trademark violation. I assume the folks at Twitter told them as much—if they were even contacted by the Times.
What do you think will happen if Twitter suspends your account?
@FreeNYT: As I showed with the creation of @tyneerf/fearthefuzzy, even if they shut @freenyt down, others will just pop up in my place. The only way to stop this is for the Times to either change its policy about referrals from social-media sites being free or stop tweeting out all its own content. I'm guessing they'll do neither, at least for now.

Chris Brown Trashes Good Morning America Set

Not everybody can handle daytime TV. After being interviewed by Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts, Chris Brown freaked out and trashed his dressing room before storming out of the studio. Think he’s a little touchy about his shady past?
The singer was visibly upset during the interview, when Roberts pressed him for answers regarding his infamous attack on Rihanna. Brown was on GMA to promote F.A.M.E., his newest album, and tried to keep the interview on this topic. “This album is what I want them to talk about and not what happened two years ago,” he said at one point.
After his first performance (two were initially scheduled), Brown went into his dressing room and starting trashing the place. TMZ captured pictures of the large window he smashed, damage one source says was done with a chair.
