CES 2008 Video: Sparky gets tasered / Taser MP3 player

When going to one expects a rough week involving countless interviews, hour after hour of writing, and defending oneself from PR reps from round the world. One thing you don’t expect is to get the living daylights shocked out of you. First and foremost, watch the video above for a chance to see me get tasered. After all, it’s hard to pass up an opportunity to see some poor sot get tasered - particularly when they signed themself up for it (full waiver and everything).

Oh yeah, a bit of background - we didn’t go for the ‘shock treatment’ but rather went to check out Tasers new MPH or Music Playing Holster. With this faux-leather device one can carry their original, pink, or leopard skin taser in style and listen to 1GB of tunes at the same time. It doesn’t fully make sense to us, but the Taser company claims this makes it an ideal exercise companion for those jogs through the seedy underbelly of your favorite big city.

Golden Globes Officially Canceled

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, NBC, Cancellations, News,

Golden Globe awardsThe announced today what most people have known for weeks: the simply cannot go on as planned.  Even though the failed to grant the awards ceremony an interim deal, the show’s producers had still hoped they could somehow carry on.  Unfortunately, the put the final nail in the coffin last week.  After being told their presentation would lack all nominees, the HFPA finally conceded.

Although there was hope for something a bit splashier, the awards show was officially scaled down from a three-hour gala to a one-hour press conference today.  The dry presser - to be hosted live by NBC News - will air this Sunday @ 6pm PT.  Why the news division?  Well that’s because their writers work under a different contract.

While I’m sad I won’t get to see my faves in their finest, there is one good thing to come out of all this.  Now we won’t have to see in her awkward stint as the next Miss Golden Globe.

Debut Review: American Gladiators

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, Renewals,

American GladiatorsZap. Nitro. Lace. Gemini. I’m not just being random here, I’m naming the original . For those of us whose memories stretch back that far, American Gladiators was a great show to watch - and it‘s even better to remember. Original, inspiring and chock-full of muscle-bound beauty, Gladiators ran from 1989 to 1996 and won viewers from a wide range of demographics. Young, old, scrawny or buff, everyone likes to see a single contestant best all the power that strength has to offer.

But I have to make a confession: when I heard was bringing this one back, I rolled my eyes and made a crack about this network’s sheer desperation to find programming. (Frankly, I stand by and maintain I’m not far from wrong. We are talking, after all, about the network which brought back and …I mean, come on).

But I was wrong. There, I said it. I’ll give this one - just this one - to NBC. It was a good idea to bring back , and after Sunday night’s two-hour debut I’m already hooked. and are the perfect hosts, both personable and professionally known for their musculature, and the new gladiators are just as ripped and menacing as the former muscle-bound group who once sent challengers toppling.

The Amazing Race

TK and Rachel – the first to reach the last pit stop – decided to get help at a nearby hotel before heading to the airport.  Through a travel desk, they got what they believed to be the earliest flight out.  The hippies were scheduled to leave at 6:55 PM flight out of India.  Christina and Ronald also made reservations beforehand, but did their work through a different agency.  The route they secured had them taking off at 8:30 PM.  Although Nicolas/Donald and Nate/Jennifer both chose to get tickets at the airport, they wound up on the same flight as the father/daughter duo.

Stephen Colbert, Jon Stewart

(Reminder: You can view the whole Revamped TV Programming Schedule here.)

MONDAY (1/7)
  • The View (ABC, check local listings):  returns from maternity leave.  I’d gladly sacrifice her to the union gods for an end to the .
  • Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann (ABC, 8pm):  Here’s our chance to see if the judges can actually teach what they preach.
  • American Gladiators (NBC, 8pm):  “In the men’s competition, an engineer takes on a radiation-control technician.”  The year of the nerd has now officially spilled over into 2008.
  • Medium (NBC, 10pm):  Season four premiere.  “Allison has creepy visions of a boy being kidnapped from a toy store.”  I never did trust that Geoffrey Giraffe.
  • Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations (Travel Channel, 10pm):  Anthony travels to Singapore for his latest season premiere.  I don’t like traveling with crusty people, but I love watching them venture on TV.
  • The Daily Show/The Colbert Report (Comedy Central, 11:30pm):  Tonight Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert will crank out their versions of a writer-less show.  God love ‘em for trying.
