Revolutionary Road Another Hit for DiCaprio and Winslet?

Revolutionary Road

Eleven years ago, and made film history in Titanic - truly, an on-screen pairing even more epic than Richard Gere and Julia Roberts. With Revolutionary Road, the two are reunited.

But despite this star power, many critics aren’t raving about . MSNBC called the flick “another sinking ship,” to poke a little fun at the Titanic history of this on-screen couple. The same review goes on to call the movie a “dreary film adaptation” and says both main characters are “thoroughly mediocre, uninteresting people.”

The Associated Press calls the film “brutally tedious,” hardly high praise. Many reviewers are comparing the subject matter of the film to a watered-down version of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and the look of the piece to TV series Mad Men.

Somewhere in the middle of it all are DiCaprio and Winslet, whom - everyone seems to agree - both delivered great performances. If nothing else, the film is worthwhile for these two alone. And not all the reviews are negative - Variety calls the flick “constantly engrossing.”

That’s hopeful, right?

That’s where the Mophie Juice Pack steps in, aiming to provide that extra battery goodness. Read on to find out why it earned a spot in our Holiday Gift Guide.

Cruise’s Valkyrie Already Getting Award Buzz

Tom Cruise, ValkyrieThe long-anticipated, still-not-released WWII flick is already getting buzz on the award circuit. The Razzies are looking forward to featuring Cruise in their 2009 ceremonies.

Last year’s Razzie event ended with a series of stills from movies which are expected to be offered awards in the future. A shot of Tom Cruise in his Nazi uniform received a huge reaction from the audience. As the date of the movie’s release draws ever-nearer, Valkyrie is getting attention from reviewers as well.

“This is not his Oscar moment,” states one reviewer. Another calls a would-be intense scene “funny” - not at all what the flick is going for with its tense drama about a plot to murder Adolf Hitler.

No Rave Reviews for Hilton’s Repo!

The press for Repo! The Genetic Opera has been going strong for a long, long time now…and I have to be honest in saying that I never was sold on the idea. Set in the year 2056, the movie illustrates a scary world where one company controls all organ transplants and high-end plastic surgery. Easy financing leads to some of the most gruesome repossessions you could imagine - hence, the title. The movie’s biggest claims to fame have always been a cult-like appeal and the name , who was attached to the project early.

Did I mention it’s also a musical? But if you’re expecting something sort of oddball and fun like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or something dark and grim like Sweeny Todd, you could be taken by surprise. Reviews for the movie are in…and no one seems to be raving for or Miss Hilton, either.

Motorola MOTOAURA gets pictured and reviewed

MOTOAURA Cell PhoneNot many people have the luxury of spending $2000 on a mobile phone.  The MOTOAURA is a new luxury phone from which incorporates an 240x320-pixel display enclosed behind an A-grade 62-carat Sapphire lens, giving it expense and a scratch-proof cover.  The enclosure is almost all metal except at the bottom where there is a small piece of plastic for the internal antenna.  The back of the MOTOAURA has a watch-like quality in that it allows you to see the workings of its switchblade-style opening mechanism.  The rest of the MOTOAURA is your normal cell phone, incorporating a keypad and screen.  Mobile-Review has plenty of pictures, a full review and a video showing how scratch-resistive the screen is.  It’s hard to see people spend this kind of money on such a simple device, but if you need that premium device that is out of reach for most of the population, then the MOTOAURA is just what you have been looking for.

NBC Tries to Remake Aussie Hit

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, NBC, Video,

Kath & KimNBC’s will premiere tonight at 8:30 pm EST. And though the new series featuring Selma Blair and Molly Shannon (a comedy duo who should be perfect together) is being touted as a “sitcom following a dysfunctional mother-daughter duo and their adventures in middle-class suburbia,” the reviewers are taking a decidedly less lighthearted stance. The Boston Herald called the series a “problem child,” while zap2it said the first two episodes were “pretty laugh-free.” This is not the sort of response a comedy featuring two such gifted actresses should receive.

The series was a huge hit in Australia, which pretty well guaranteed it would find a home on American shores eventually. NBC picked up the remake baton and cast Blair as Shannon’s spoiled, thick-as-a-brick daughter (though the two are actually separated by only eight years in age). plays Kath, spandex-wearing and man-hunting, to Blair’s Kim, a celebrity-obsessed, would-be trophy wife.

Paris Hilton’s My New Obsession

Paris Hilton

Last night saw the premiere of Paris Hilton’s new MTV reality show (which has been getting buzz for months). Hilton chose “sixteen girls and two boys” to become her potential platonic party partner for . I expected that I would hate it…but I just can’t escape the magnetic pull of unoriginal, fairly bad reality TV. That’s right, I said it - I’m an MTV fan.

I was instantly under the spell of Hilton’s friend search, a premise itself which is obvious malarkey. Casting is already under way for the second season, so I’m guessing no true best friendships were forged during this first one. Or perhaps , like me, can see the immediate potential of a show filled with good-looking twenty-somethings (most of whom seem as dense as bricks) that hero-worship the vapid Miss Hilton. It’s so far out of actual reality, it’s just crazy enough to be reality TV.
