Quote of the Day: Jay-Z Didn’t Want We Are the World Remake
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Collaborations, Gossip, Covers,
“I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: We Are the World, I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson’s] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched. I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts: [Millions have been raised] through text [donations] to Haiti. So I appreciate the efforts and everything, but ‘We are the World’ is [musically] untouchable like ‘Thriller’ is untouchable. Some things are just untouchable. It was a valiant effort, but for me, it’s gonna be untouchable.”

Laverne & Shirley: File this in the “Was He Kidding?” file. During a recent red carpet event for Valentine’s Day, director Garry Marshall said he may bring Laverne & Shirley to the big screen—with Jessica Biel and Jennifer Garner in the lead roles. “We’re gonna work on that,” the original show’s co-creator stated. “My sister Penny and Cindy are gonna have a guest cameo. They’re gonna walk “schlemiel, schlemazel”—or they’re gonna get tired in the middle and sit down.”

Carey Mulligan: The Next Audrey Hepburn?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Columbia Pictures, Adaptation, Musicals, Remakes, Romance, Casting, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Carey Mulligan is reportedly in negotiations to play Eliza Doolittle in the remake of My Fair Lady.
The 24-year-old actress - who has been nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in An Education - is believed to be in talks with the producers of the upcoming musical movie after fellow British starlet Keira Knightley ruled herself out of the role last month.
“The actress has not been formally offered the part yet - and won’t be until Columbia Pictures agrees the film’s budget,” Daily Mail columnist Baz Bamigboye said. “Carey and the My Fair Lady filmmakers will keep talking until a deal can be struck.”
The role of Eliza was first made famous by screen legend Audrey Hepburn in the original film, in which London flower girl Eliza becomes a lady after meeting and falling in love with Professor Henry Higgins.

Conan the Barbarian: Jason Momoa is the man who will likely step into Arnold Schwarzenegger’s old loincloth. The Stargate Atlantis hunk is currently in talks to front a reboot of Conan the Barbarian, a 1982 entry starring California’s current governor. First Look: The A-Team Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: 20th Century Fox, Action, Adventure, Remakes, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
“There is no Plan B.” Well, that’s a shame…because I don’t think this crew brought their A-game to this trailer.
Although I had high hopes for the big screen version of The A-Team, this clip’s left me underwhelmed. Here are a few of my snap judgments:
- Giving yourself a mohawk doesn’t necessarily make you B.A. Baracus…..or a good actor.
- Putting four guys together doesn’t automatically mean good chemistry.
- Scenes involving gunfire from a floating tank are bound to look cheesy.
- Bradley Cooper looks good in and out of a suit.
Were you more impressed with the trailer than I was? Then be sure to set aside June 11 on your calendar.

Network TV Goes Green: Old Shows Recycled
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Action, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, CBS, NBC, Gossip, News,
This doesn’t bode well for upcoming TV seasons. NBC, ABC and CBS are all following the same environmental trend: they’re recycling. However, these network TV additions won’t reduce emissions or help us in an energy crisis - if anything, it’s just going to bring down the value of network TV.
All three networks will be re-hashing the 1970s by bringing back The Rockford Files (NBC), Charlie’s Angels (ABC) and Hawaii Five-O (CBS). They’re following a current trend in Hollywood, where everything old is new again. Even Betty White is experiencing a somewhat renewed popularity.
This opens the door for all sorts of other 1970s shows. Someone, somewhere, is getting ready to re-pitch Misadventures of Sheriff Lobo and Feather and the Father Gang.

First Look: Jaden Smith in Karate Kid Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Columbia Pictures, Action, Drama, Remakes, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
“The only way to stop them is to face them” - Jackie Chan talking to Jaden Smith about
his Chinese bullies.
In this remake of The Karate Kid, the drama has shifted from Los Angeles to Beijing, chopsticks have been coupled with a fly swatter and “wax on, wax off” has been replaced with “pick up your jacket.” Otherwise, I think the story’s pretty much about the same…? (I’ll let you decide whether that’s a good thing or not.)
The martial arts action kicks in June 11.
