Fire on Universal Lot
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal,

UPDATE: The cause was determined to be accidental. The fire was started by workers using a blowtorch.
Although the flames are not entirely extinguished, a fire at the Universal lot in Los Angeles is now contained. The blaze, which erupted around 5 a.m. this morning has injured four firefighters. It has also damaged approximately 4-5 structures including New York Street, Courthouse Square, the video vault and the building that houses the King Kong exhibit.
While no cause has yet been determined, it is believed filming was going on at the time.
The fire, located at the backlot near the theme park, should not interrupt tonight’s taping of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.

MTV Showcases New Choke Trailer
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: 20th Century Fox, Fox Searchlight, Adaptation, Independent, Romance, Comedy, Distribution, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
While things failed to appear very promising with the mixed reviews out there thus far, the trailer for nihilistic author Chuck Palahniuk‘s latest novel-turned-film doesn’t actually look that bad!
Despite the fact that I am as much of an MTV hater as the next person, I have to admit that they do help out a couple independent films here and there that I end up truly enjoying (think Better Luck Tomorrow or Orange County). With that said, I was extremely disappointed to read the bad reviews on Choke, although seeing that MTV is now airing the official trailer for the film got my hopes up a bit. They even have an interview with Palahniuk himself on the New Jersey set.
As for the trailer (check it out after the jump), aside from the weird porn background music, Sam Rockwell seems to have pulled Victor Mancini’s persona straight from Palahniuk’s very pages. The very racy and provocative film’s release date has been pushed back to September 26th.

Madonna Back to Kissing Women
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, Photos,
I wonder if Britney Spears is experiencing any pangs of jealousy right now.

Last night during a Paris concert, Madonna found a new lady to tease the audience with. This kiss comes nearly five years after the singer’s much talked about smooches with the pop princess and Christina Aguilera. (If you need a reminder of those moments, you can see them again after the jump.)
I guess it doesn’t matter if Madonna is 45 or pushing 50. A racy publicity stunt works at any age for her.

Paris Hilton Having a Hard Time Finding Friends
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Television, Rumors,
Even though production is scheduled to begin next month, it seems Paris Hilton’s new reality show may be hurting in the casting department.
Believing people would want to become her next discarded friend, the socialite has agreed to play nice with those who yearn to be seen by her side. In Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, the hotel heiress will choose amongst 20 stalkers who will do their best to prove their loyalty to her. (I’m guessing this MTV production will be something similar to A Shot of Love with Tila Tequila sans the sex. Or at least, the bisexuality.)
Unfortunately, rounding up a pool of worthwhile candidates is apparently proving to be more difficult than it may have originally seemed. A recent New York casting call reportedly drew only 40-50 hopefuls in total. What? No one wants to be her dogs’ next pooper scooper?
Those interested in applying for the sidekick position can find more information here.

No Hills Movie for Heidi Montag
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
Despite having a loser boyfriend (a.k.a. Spencer Pratt), a questionable singing career and a soon-to-be-on-the-clearance-rack clothing line - Heidi Montag says she wants nothing to do with a proposed movie version of The Hills.
Don’t get me wrong—I think a big screen version of the reality show would be a ridiculous idea. But should Heidi be turning her back on really the only thing she’s known for?
In an interview with MTV, Montag says she would like to set her sights much higher when it came to the film industry:
“I’ve never discussed a movie possibility for ‘The Hills’…and I’m not sure if for my first movie I’d let Lauren Conrad narrate me, so I don’t think that would be something I would do. If I was doing movies, I’d want it to be with Denzel Washington or something like that. If they were to make a ‘Hills’ movie, I wouldn’t be in it. No, thank you.”
Uhh, Denzel Washington? This is coming from someone who couldn’t even lip-synch in her own music video.

- Rules of Engagement (CBS, 9:30pm): New episode. “Adam and Jennifer go on a vacation with Jeff and Audrey, but first they have to endure a time share sales pitch.” What do I get if I endure the show?

- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): Nicole Scherzinger gives the girls tips on vocal expression. Sadly, advice on releasing solo albums is not something she can dish out.
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): New episode. “A bride is murdered at her wedding. The investigation takes the CSIs to a strip club where the bachelor party took place.” Strip club? This would be the perfect time for another Elizabeth Berkley appearance.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season premiere. I wonder if LC wore any of her own designs in Paris. Doubt it.

Choose or Lose the Democratic Candidates
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Specials, MTV, Gossip,
Veterans, MTV, and the Associated Press will all get together on Thursday to have a “candid discussion” (MTV) about the ongoing war in Iraq with the democratic Presidential hopefuls. Scheduled to last only one hour, the special will take up considerably less time than a standard democratic debate, and will air at the abysmal time of 6 pm EST (when it’s almost certain only about twenty people will catch it). The broadcast will be shown on all MTV-named channels (too numerous to list) and will be streamed across almost two thousand Web sites.
The sit-down discussion with Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama is part of the Choose or Lose effort, geared toward getting the 18 to 30 set to vote. The special will take place in Pennsylvania, where a primary will be held April 22. MTV research indicates that those aged from 18 to 24 are most concerned with Iraq, with 6 out of 10 in this group personally knowing at least one person who has actively served in the war.
The event is to be commercial-free, words which frighten me because I’m sure the product placement from MTV will be off the charts. John McCain was also invited to participate, but scheduling conflicts caused him to beg off.

Paula Abdul Dissed By MTV
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Videos, Breaking News,
Paula Abdul had been mostly relegated to VH1 by the time I was old enough to start watching music videos, but I’ll never, ever forget the number she did with the rapping, cartoon alley cat. Talk about a horrible musical moment.
Abdul has recently made the attempt to resurrect her oh-so-yesterday musical career through collaboration with Randy Jackson. The new music video for her single debuted on American Idol (and can be viewed by you after the jump), but according to reports it might not be seen anywhere else.
