apple 27-inch cinema display

We’ve been waiting a long time-seriously, years—for Apple to release some sort of update to the top-end of their Cinema Display line, and they’ve finally gone and done it. Today, Apple announced their new 27-inch Cinema Display. It boasts a resolution of 2560x1440 and costs $999, just $100 more than the 24-inch model that is is replacing. In fact, Apple is also discontinuing the 30-inch LCD model, which currently sells for a whopping $1799.

You get the same ports that you had on the 24-inch model, but pick up a brighter panel with an improved response time (12ms, down from the older 14ms of the 24-inch model.) Apple will be shipping these in September.

Apple 30-inch cinema display

If you’ve been waiting to pick up a new 30-inch Apple Cinema Display, but were waiting until Apple released an LED-backlit version, there may be hope for you yet. Now, we don’t want to get your hopes up too much, but from the looks of things, the 30-inch Cinema Display have been pushed back. Typically, they would ship within 24 hours, but as of today, it is showing a 5-7 business day wait. Historically, when there is a large and sudden shipping delay like that, we’ve seen a product refresh follow soon thereafter. Now that Apple has worked out the 27-inch iMac LED display issues, maybe it’s finally time that the 30-inch display gets update (or replaced with a standalone LED-backlit 27-inch Cinema Display.)

NEC MultiSync EA109M standard-aspect LCD monitors

NEC MultiSync EA109M

looks to be trying to squeeze every last penny out of the non-16:9 monitor marketplace with the MultiSync EA109M.  It has 1280 x 1024 resolution, five millisecond response time, 4-way ergonomic stand, 900:1 contrast ratio, and black bezel finish. We know, completely underwhelming. What’s worse, though, is they are pricing it at $259, ensuring that no one but out-of-date government agencies and schools will be purchasing them.

Unibody MacBook Pro 15-inch finally gets matte display option

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Design, PC / Laptop,

MacBook Pro 15 inch matte option

When launched the MacBook Pros, one of the loudest cries we heard from the Mac community was in relation to the loss of the matte display option. You see, while Apple touted colors that “pop” a bit more off of the glossy screen, those of us who like to be, you know, mobile with our notebook computers, cried foul. The problem with a glossy-only option (or lack of option, really) is that if you are using your MacBook Pro in the sun, you essentially have a screen that can double as a mirror.

Well, Apple has heard those cries, and has finally brought a matte screen option to the 15-inch MacBook Pro, something that the 17-inch unibody version has had since the get-go. It’ll cost you an extra $50 for the privilege, and you also lose the black “borderless” infinity bezel around the screen, and instead get a silver bezel like previous versions of the MacBook Pro.
