Alright gang, this is our final video from the HP Your Life is the Show event that HP put on recently. In this episode, we chat with Jonathan Kaye about the collaboration between HP and MTV on their “Take Action…Make Art” competition. In essence, the contest is open to anyone who’d like to their their art transformed into the newest HP notebook design. Over at the official TAMA site, you can see all current entries, download design templates, upload your own creations, etc. It’s all fairly slick, plus the winner gets their design made and printed on 50,000 notebook computers. Plus they get one of their own. Not too shabby, right? Head on over to the site now to participate before things closes on October 17. Sony to Issue New Laptop Series NR

Sony has just unveiled their new entry level notebooks with a lesser price, at least for them. At a size of 14.2 x 10.6 x 1.5-inches and a weight of over 6 lbs, all three feature a 15.4-inch WXGA screen with XBRITE-ECO technology, hold one GB of DDR2 memory, and feature a graphics accelerator and a dual-layer DVD burner. The NR110 and 120 have a 1160 GB HDD while the NR140 features 120GB HDD.
Available in brown, white, or granite, Sony claims run is between 2.5 and 7.5 hours, depending on battery used. Since their laptops generally hang around the $950.00 mark, we suspect that the lesser price for the NR series at $750.00 is their way of saying, “We’re okay now. Buy Me.” Look for them next month at Sony Style.

Embraco Helps Gamers Chill Out

When we first saw this gadget, we though it was meant to tell your shoe size electronically. Embraco, in cooperation with Intel, has created the Refrigerated Docking Station for gaming laptops that, with its compressor, churns out cool air as opposed to just blowing around what is already there. It can reduce the temperature as much as 40%. There is also a temperature sensor to keep track of its progress. Available for the Holiday rush, this should carry a MSRP of about $150.00.

Toshiba To Produce 320GB Hard Drives for Laptops

Computers just keep getting bigger spacewise, thank goodness, especially for those of us who have a tendency to keep everything video that they ever recorded, just in case it is the beginning of a YouTube masterpiece. Toshiba will begin production on a 320GB hard-disk drive for laptops before the end of this year. The 2.5-inch drive is one of a series of five that will be a part of their MKxx52SX family. The 320GB model has two platters, while the others will offer between 80 and 250GB of space. The drives will connect through a 3Gbps SATA interface. No pricing or exact release date has been made available.

Greg from American Power Conversion gives us a look at their universal laptop battery that lasts for nine hours. Yeah. Nine hours. These are fairly cool, and sit below your laptop. It takes about 16 hours to charge, so an overnighter is smart with these - but seriously, nine hours of extra power is fantastic. This battery runs about $199 USD. The company also has a battery for portable devices that provide about 55 hours of power for $69.99 USD.
2006 Holiday Gift Guide: Apple MacBook Pro

In our opinion, it doesn’t get much better than the MacBook Pro when it comes to a portable computer. Why? Well, aside from the Intel Core 2 Duo processors that they house, they are lightweight and have batteries that last almost three hours under normal use and load. It has a built-in iSight webcam, FireWire 400 and 800 ports, and a backlit keyboard. The kicker here though, is that by using this with the Parallels software, you can run Windows 2000, XP, and Vista side-by-side within OS X. If you prefer a dedicated OS experience, you can use Boot Camp to run Windows on it’s own. That means that by buying a MacBook Pro, you get access to both the OS X and Windows operating systems with extreme ease. The same can’t be said for the PC side of things.
