Alec Baldwin ‘Interested’ in Political Office

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Movies, Television,

“It’s something that I’m very, very interested in,” actor Alec Baldwin told CNN’s Eliot Spitzer, when asked if he would ever get into the political game.

“I do believe that people want to believe that someone who deeply cares about the middle-class ... would like to seek public office."

But then again, Baldwin seems committed to his current career.

He qualified his statement with this: "To quit [acting] now when it really feels good and doing it feels good would be an enormously difficult thing to do.”

"What's missing is  ... people who have not lost sight of what the middle-class in this country needs.” (Because, clearly, Alex Baldwin knows just exactly what that is.)

The actor's interview with CNN will air Wednesday on Parker Spitzer.

Sarah Burton Wary of Taking on McQueen Role

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News,

Sarah BurtonSarah Burton almost turned down the chance to take over from the late Alexander McQueen. The legendary fashion designer tragically committed suicide last February and Sarah was later named as the new creative director of the brand, but she admits it was a tough challenge to take on.

"I thought, 'How would I ever begin to begin?' Lee's mind was so different to anyone else's. I knew there was no way I could pretend to be him; but I had to ask myself, what did Lee work for? For all this just to close down?"

Sarah, who had been the right-hand aide of McQueen for the past 16 years, also vowed her collections will be true to herself but will pay tribute to the fashion legend and his creations.

"People ask: what's Sarah about? But I've worked here for so long, there's been a big part of me in those collections all along the way. I'm not going to wipe the slate clean. That would be wiping me away. There will always be those McQueen elements, but at the same time, you can never stay still and you have to stay true to yourself. That's what Lee drummed in to me: you have to be able to stand behind your work."

Gwyneth Paltrow Received Addiction Tips from Robert Downey, Jr.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Gwyneth Paltrow ran into some obstacles while trying to identify with her character in Country Song.

"I just couldn't understand how you could be so drunk that you could wreck people's lives and then wake up the next day and pretend everything was fine," she said.

Gwyneth revealed how she prepped for the film in a recent interview.

Paltrow wanted real insight into addiction, and how it affects the user as well as those around them. So, she went to someone with real life experience: Iron Man co-star Robert Downey, Jr.

“He was really articulate about addiction and the psychology behind it. He really helped me a lot.”

Weekend Reading: Joe Casey, Thor, Dr. Spektor and Drew Friedman

Superman ChristmasThe War on Christmas is nearly done for another year, and there’s just enough time left for the War on New Year’s. Let's see what you should be reading this week:

Joe: This is simply a great, honest and open interview with Joe Casey, comic book writer/creator and co-creator of Ben 10. Perfect holiday reading from interviewer Tom Spurgeon at The Comics Reporter.

Thor: So there’s some controversy from an all-white group that’s upset that Marvel has cast an actor of color to play a Norse God in Thor. Ricky Sprague at Project Child Murdering Robot has a thought or two.

Polly: Animator Michael Sporn is happy that Dean Mullaney’s new book has arrived (as am I). Polly and Her Pals: the Complete Sunday Comics 1925-1927 comes from Dean’s The Library of American Comics via IDW.

VIDEO: Lea Michele Talks Broadway … Ten Years Before Glee

Lea Michele, 12, radiated star power long before millions heard her voice on FOX’s hit Glee. In the video above, Michele is being interviewed for a documentary later picked up by MTV’s The Seven.

She talks to cameras openly about her experiences on Broadway, explains that she’s still “a normal kid,” and remains poised and engaging throughout.

Documentary filmmakers Louis Alvarez and Andrew Kolker recall the young Lea Michele in brief asides, remarking that she had a “thousand-watt personality.”

“I can do anything and that’s how I kind of stay sane in this really tough, dog-eat-dog business,” she explains. It took 10 years, but the Emmy-nominated actress has managed to convince many that her words are true: she really can do anything.

Mighty Samson: Jim Shooter & Patrick Olliffe

Here's a comic that might be flying under your personal radar that I think merits a look. Mighty Samson is part of Jim Shooter's Gold Key revival at Dark Horse (which also includes Magnus, Turok and Dr. Solar) but it's the only one of the bunch that was never part of Valiant.

This relaunch of the classic character is spearheaded by Shooter and his co-writer J.C. Vaughn, and illustrated by Patrick Olliffe (who does pencils and inks).

Set 500 hundred years after the end of the world in a now-primitive city known as N'Yark, Mighty Samson is filled with "mutated monsters, marauders, and savage subhuman predators." From the ashes of those ruins rises a super-strong champion, Samson, who will defend and protect his piece of the apocalypse from all comers, including the barbarian hordes from across the bridge in Jerz.

It's N'Yark vs. Jerz – a battle as old as time itself! I'm biased because I've met Shooter a couple of times, I'm friends with J.C. Vaughn and I used to work on projects with Patrick Olliffe. That's one heckuva bias, but I also know they can bring the goods, so I'm in.

Here's an interview with Dark Horse editor Chris Warner  talking about the series.

And here's a preview of the interiors of the first issue that's on sale now.

Now go and get yours and let me know what you think.

Weekend Reading: Cowboys & Aliens, Jacques Tardi And Adrienne Roy

Cowboys & AliensIt’s the week before Christmas for many people, and we begin, unfortunately, on a sad note. Veteran industry colorist Adrienne Roy passed away this week. ComicMix has the details of her long-running career as a colorist for hundreds of DC’s Bronze Age comics. I did not know that she was once voted "Most Beautifully Tattooed Female." She was well-known and highly-regarded, so there are certain to be other remembrances - like this one by Mark Evanier - around the internets.

Cowboys: Robert Orci talks about the upcoming Cowboys & Aliens movie, and Harrison Ford: “I’m assuming Spielberg called in some kind of a favor, because we were shocked to hear that he was interested.”

Crime: Novelist and funnybook writer Gary Phillips chooses his favorite crime and mystery graphic novels of 2010 for The Rap Sheet. Yes, Darwyn Cooke’s Parker: The Outfit is in there, but so’s a bunch of other cool stuff I need to check out now.

Not to worry, Finchel fans: Lea is just as worked up about the breakup as you are. “I’m so upset about it!” She cried, admitting that’s she “devastated.”
