Family Guy’s Fate on FOX
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, Prime Time, FOX, Gossip,
Home of the nation’s number one show, 20th Century Fox will soon be paying one of their writer/producers one of the biggest salaries in TV. Here’s the twist: that person doesn’t work on American Idol.
Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy and American Dad, will become the best-paid writer/producer on TV thanks to his new contract. The agreement ensures that Family Guy will remain on the air until 2012, but it also covers a few other projects still in the till. Under the terms of the contract, MacFarlane will continue to pen episodes of American Dad as well as The Cleveland Show (a planned Family Guy spinoff). “I get a lot of pleasure out of making show,” said MacFarlane to the press. “It’s a bonus to get getting paid well for it, and it’s a double bonus to be getting paid exorbitantly for it.” The amount in question remains undisclosed, though it is expected to soar above the $60 million, five-year contract offered to J.J. Abrams (Lost) in 2006.

Scrubs Says Goodbye to NBC
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, NBC, Scrubs, News,

Although the Sacred Heart gang is only scheduled for two more episodes, no official announcement has been made by NBC as to the fate of it’s long-running comedy. The network has also neglected to give Scrubs’ possible series finale any ramped-up promotion.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the studio’s indifference may have to do with the show’s new home. What seemed to be just a wishful dream earlier is now apparently coming true: Scrubs will getting a new life at ABC.

Britney Spears Returns to How I Met Your Mother
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, CBS, Editorial, Gossip, Ratings, Renewals,

Even though Sarah Connor has managed to get itself off the renewal bubble, there’s a list of others shows out there still aiming to get their golden tickets.
Believing there’s nothing wrong with a bit of promotional overkill, How I Met Your Mother will be looking to once again milk something out of their celebrity cash cow. (No pun intended.) According to People, a source reports that Britney Spears will indeed make another appearance on the comedy. Her first stint on the CBS series helped give the show its highest ratings ever.
Now if this latest publicity stunt doesn’t get the network to renew HIMYM once and for all, I don’t know what will. Will Jason Segel need to go full frontal? I’ve seen Forgetting Sarah Marshall. I know he’d do it.

Preview How I Met Your Mother’s New Robin Sparkles Video
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Music, Prime Time, CBS, Gossip, Video,
Although it’s been a while since we’ve seen Robin Sparkles on American television (she was discovered back in November 2006), fans won’t have to wait much longer.
Come April 21, How I Met Your Mother‘s favorite Canadian pop star (a.k.a. Robin’s early years) will be showing us a much softer side. Here’s a preview of her Debbie Gibson-esque ballad “Sandcastles in the Sand.” (Check out the other ‘80s icons in the clip.)
If you haven’t had the chance to experience Robin’s breakout hit, “Let’s Go to the Mall”, you can see that video after the jump. Those wanting even more Sparkle can also learn about the acid wash loving singer through her MySpace page.

Neil Patrick Harris Against Second Britney Appearance
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, CBS, Gossip,
While I’m sure he’s appreciative of the attention she helped bring to the show, How I Met Your Mother‘s Neil Patrick Harris would rather a certain pop star stayed at home.
Britney Spears’ cameo last month helped the CBS comedy earn its best performance in the demos ever. So why wouldn’t he want her to come back? Harris would (smartly) prefer to see Mother succeed on its own merits. In an interview with the AP, the actor admitted that his opinions are not shared by everyone in his crew. “I’m in the minority that our show does not need stunt casting in order to succeed.”
The singer’s highly-publicized appearance was not the first time the series had had a celebrity visit. Other guests have included Heidi Klum, Enrique Iglesias, Vanessa Minnillo and Mandy Moore. If the stunt casting continues at this pace, the comedy could end up looking like a former NBC hit.

MONDAY (3/31)
- Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm): The top 10 dancers take the floor tonight. If Marlee Matlin also manages to master the fast jive, she’ll have my votes from this point out.
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm): “Sheldon gets sick, but the guys refuse to take care of him because he’s such a bad patient.” So is there such thing as a good male patient?
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30): “Barney tries to find the mystery woman who’s out to ruin his reputation, and he uses the basketball tournament-bracket template to eliminate 64 suspects.” Okay - if CBS can’t get around to finally renewing this series, I will give them 64 reasons why I hate them.
- New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm): “When a murder victim in Chinatown murder reminds John of a son he lost in the early 20th century, the investigation leads to a ruthless crime family who are related to his offspring.” And I thought Terminator‘s storyline was trippy.

Four New Pilots Get Go The Ahead at ABC
Posted by Jacci Lewis Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, News,
Cops and chick lit get the go ahead at ABC, at least in pilot form. The Hollywood Reporter says the network has approved the production of four new pilots, three of them focusing on crime and punishment.
Castle, produced by ABC Studios and Beacon, is reportedly a one-hour drama about a horror writer who consults for the NYPD homicide department.
The Unusuals, from Sony Pictures TV and Apostle, is described as a one-hour dramatic comedy set inside a New York police precinct.
The Hollywood Reporter describes Finnegan as yet another one-hour crime drama about a tough female detective in the Los Angeles Police Department’s organized crime/vice unit.

MONDAY (3/24)
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30): The overly-promoted Britney Spears cameo finally airs tonight. Let’s just be happy the show is only 30-minutes long.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): Nicole Scherzinger gives the girls tips on vocal expression. Sadly, advice on releasing solo albums is not something she can dish out.
- CSI: Miami (CBS, 10pm): New episode. “A bride is murdered at her wedding. The investigation takes the CSIs to a strip club where the bachelor party took place.” Strip club? This would be the perfect time for another Elizabeth Berkley appearance.
- The Hills (MTV, 10pm): Season premiere. I wonder if LC wore any of her own designs in Paris. Doubt it.

Tropic Thunder Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Comedy, Casting, Trailers, Upcoming Releases,
Earlier this month, we told you about Robert Downey Jr.‘s potentially controversial role in Tropic Thunder. In the comedy, the actor plays an actor who plays a black man. (Get that?)
Now here’s your chance to see a clip of the film also starring Ben Stiller and Jack Black. I’m excited to say the movie looks like a riot.
Tropic Thunder storms into theaters on August
13th.
