Britney Spears, How I Met Your Mother

Here’s your first glance of Britney Spears during her upcoming appearance on CBS’ How I Met Your Mother.  If this shot does not scream overacting, I don’t know what does.  (You can see another one of her scenes, after the jump.)

Mark your calendar for Monday, March 24 to see if it gets any better than this.

Spears’ Cameo Forces Silverstone to Quit

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, CBS, NBC, Scrubs, Gossip,

Sarah ChalkeYesterday, we told you that Britney Spears would be making an upcoming appearance on How I Met Your Mother.  Unfortunately, her announced entrance was followed by someone else’s exit.

Alicia Silverstone, who was supposed to be involved in a romantic storyline with Ted, has opted out of her guest role.  It seems Alicia didn’t like the idea of Spears’ cameo overshadowing her her spotlight.  (The pop singer was slated to play her receptionist.)

Sarah Chalke - Dr. Elliot Reid from - will now be stepping in to fill the Clueless star’s shoes.  Unfortunately, her schedule will only allow her to be in one episode….not several, as was intended for Silverstone.  This most likely means will not know the identity of the show’s ‘mother’ anytime soon.

Britney Spears on How I Met Your Mother

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, CBS, Gossip,

Britney SpearsDays after news of an Alicia Silverstone arc, we’re learning of much talkier plans for How I Met Your Mother.  The CBS comedy will soon be embracing another guest star:  .

Unlike the storyline involving Silverstone, the part planned for Britney is not considered to be signficant.  The singer will also be playing someone other than herself.  (I’m guessing her character will still have some sort of twang and head gestures.)

Sadly, this stunt casting follows an appearance by Paris Hilton on My Name is Earl.  Apparently viewers will turn on their TVs if producers bring their internet stars to the TV.

No date has yet been announced for the Spears cameo.  Meanwhile, Hilton will be running around ‘s dreams come April 3rd.

Amy Poehler’s Fierce Impression of Christian Siriano

In case you didn’t catch this past weekend, here was the best part of what was yet another unevenly funny program.

In addition to Amy Poehler’s imitation of Project Runway winner , we get cameos from ‘Tim Gunn’ and ‘Heidi Klum’.

(UPDATE:  Real-life Christian apparently enjoyed the skit as well.)

Robert Downey Jr. Plays a Black Man in Next Role

Tropic ThunderWhile many have been oohing and ahhing over the pics of . as Iron Man, its his work in a less splashy flick that may generate the most talk.

In the upcoming movie, Tropic Thunder, Downey plays an actor who plays a black man in a film he is shooting.  Instead of rewriting a role originally written for an African-American, Robert’s character, Kirk Lazarus, opts to go the method route and dyes his skin.  (You can see him in the picture next to Jack Black.)

This movie already came with buzz attached to it long before Downey’s role was revealed.  This was the film Owen Wilson was attached to at the time of his suicide attempt.

So what do you think?  Should this role be considered controversial? Should it simply be taken into context?  Should we just be happy that it’s not 1986’s Soul Man?

Could Alicia Silverstone Be How I Met Your Mother’s Mystery Woman?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, CBS, Gossip, Rumors,

Alicia SilverstoneBased on some fine detective work, TV Guide is speculating that the ‘mother’ of CBS’ may in fact be…..

That educated guess is based the Clueless star’s several episode arc with ‘father’ Ted later this season.  (And it’s not like any love interest every sticks around for long on that show.)

If it isn’t Silverstone, let’s hope the writers introduce the mommy quick.  If doesn’t renew the show (it’s not yet on the fall schedule), we may never find out.

My Name is Earl Welcomes….Paris Hilton

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, NBC, My Name Is Earl, Gossip,

paris hiltonI never thought I’d see the day when a perfectly good comedy wastes its time on celebutante trash.  Unfortunately, this news is real: Paris Hilton will guest star on an episode of .

Granted, there was a time when Tara Reid was seen roaming the halls of —but I actually believe that was during her less skanky period.

The show’s creator confirmed that Hilton will be featured in one of Earl’s dream sequences.  (Let’s hope it’s a dream of Joy and Catalina pulling her extensions out.)

The cameo will happen during the show’s official return:  April 3.

Justin Timberlake Wears Little for The Love Guru

Justin Timberlake, The Love GuruJustin Timberlake, The Love Guru

Tired of seeing repeat the same schtick over and over again? Well, if you’re a fan, you may have a whole new reason to watch The Love Guru.

The film, which opens June 20th, features Myers as an American raised in India.  He is invited to the States when his self-help advice is sought.  Timberlake, who wears very little based on the preview pics, plays an athlete who has an affair with a hockey player’s wife.  As for - I believe she stars as the vacuous beauty.

Surprising fun fact?  Not including his roles in the animated Shrek films, this is Myers’ first live-action role since 2003’s A Cat in the Hat.  It only felt like he was everywhere.

You can view the Guru‘s trailer, after the jump.

Will Scrubs Find a New Home on ABC?

Scrubs

The state of affairs for the future of has been growing curiouser and curiouser by the day.  But the latest round of strange developments could produce a nice bonus for devoted fans.

Regular viewers of the show have grown accustomed to seeing their comedy treated poorly over the years.  Time shifts, day shifts, long hiatuses…but this viewing season has been particularly hard for Sacred Heart watchers.  Just when we thought the series finale would wrap up on a nice note, the happened.

Although there are currently five episodes still sitting in the can (those will start airing come April 10), creator Bill Lawrence has been fighting NBC for the chance to shoot more post-strike eps.  Up until recently, it was even rumored that those additional segments may wind up on - of all things - DVD.  Seriously.  Is that how a show gets treated after seven seasons?  Is that how the Peacock execs show their audiences respect?

That’s when stepped in.

Is Unhitched Worth Watching?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, FOX, Editorial, Video,

UnhitchedThey say you really shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.  But you know, in some cases, that time-saving strategy can really tell you a lot.

Case in point:  FOX’s new comedy .  The show (debuting this weekend) almost lured me in with names like Rashida Jones, Craig Bierko and the Farrelly brothers.  But then I saw some teasers.  And now I’m convinced a few seconds has revealed quite enough.  (You can view those clips, after the jump.)

I knew a show that had Bobby and Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary) on board as executive producers could possibly be over the top, but I thought at the very minimum the ‘comedy’ would be funny.  It isn’t.  Both the writing and production feel cheap and Bierko - who I’ve loved in other projects - sticks out like an overacting sore thumb.  Thankfully, (The Office) comes off well in the straight girl role.

Those who do find the following snippets amusing can watch their first full episode this Sunday @ 9:30 on FOX.
