Get yourself back into a holiday mood by setting the stage for goodwill toward man. Watch one of the all-time best holiday movies, and remember why this time of year is so much fun to begin with.

The Santa Clause:
The newest film on the countdown and one of ’s bigger hits; this flick has it all. First, you’ve got hilarious Tim Allen as a cynical Santa. Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree to rock LEDs

Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

Let it be known that we New Yorkers take our “going green” seriously. The newly arrived Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree—like its holiday arch-rival the New Year’s Eve Ball—is replacing its incandescent bulbs with energy-friendly LED lights, 30,000 of them to be exact.  This means the 84-foot tall Norway Spruce’s electricity consumption will be reduced from 3,510 to 1,297 kilowatt hours per day (the savings equals the monthly consumption of a 2000-square-foot home). Plus, when the tree is taken down in January, it will become lumber for houses built by Habitat for Humanity (take that New Years Ball!).  If you’re in New York this holiday season, pay this tree the props it deserves by visiting between 5:30 am and 11:30 pm.

Cyber Monday Has Arrived

Verify logoAll told, about 58 million bargain hunters rose before dawn to check out Black Friday. Welcome to Cyber Monday, another effort to get the moola out of your pocket and into online retailers when shoppers go back to work. Researches say that 61 million will shop online from their cubicles, which is 18 percent higher than last year, to avoid holiday rage.

To guard against online identity theft, watch for mass e-mails complaining there are problems with your order, use a credit rather than debit card, and check for site security (the site should read “https,” with that extra “s” for security.) Finally, if you use sites like Amazon, Shopzilla, BizRate, and NexTag, don’t automatically assume you will obtain a secure and safe purchase.

Gear Live Gets Scrooged

Andru Scrooged Sparky Elved

Obviously, we can never get enough of DIY photo applications and this seasonal one is no exception. ElfYourself was available last year from OfficeMax and now ScroogeYourself has been added. Do yourself, your family, your friends, your co-workers, or anyone else you think needs memorializing. It’s fairly simple. You just use a head shot, make a couple of adjustments, and the site will do the work and save it for you. What do you think about the pair of these guys? We call it some serious attitude!

Shrek the Halls With a Big Green Ogre

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Animation, Kids, Prime Time, ABC,

Shrek the Halls Fa-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la! Not only will Shrek the Third be coming to DVD soon (November 13), but will be airing a Christmas special with the loveable green guy and his band of kooky friends. I don’t know how well it will hold up to classic fan favorites like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman or A Charlie Brown Christmas, but I’m all for a new Christmas special that isn’t another sequel to Frosty. Shrek the Halls will air on November 28th at 8:00 p.m. and will no doubt thrill kids with the animation and voice talents of , , and . The ogre’s humbug ways are challenged by his family and friends (even the Gingerbread Man of “Not my gumdrop buttons!” infamy is on hand) and you can bet the gang will make the holidays truly special. Because that’s how all Christmas specials end, right? Now I’d like to see Emmet Otter’s Jug Band Christmas return to television—you can keep your Frosty Returns and Frosty’s Winter Wonderland—bring on the jug band!

Good News for ‘Star Trek’ Fans

Original Star Trek series castOkay, I’ll admit it: I’m a Trekkie. I try not to take it to a dark place; I’ve never dressed up in costume or downloaded Enterprise schematics online. I do know what the ‘T’ stands for in James T. Kirk, and admit I’ve avidly watched every episode. Ever. So I, like many Star Trek fans out there, feel pretty stoked about the new movie. And more information is coming out of the galaxy every day. will play a villain in the flick, which is set for a Christmas 2008 release. So far, news on the film is good for Trek fans. has given the film his approval, which is said to focus on Spock – and that all sounds very promising to Trekkies of all kinds.

Reiko Aylesworth vs. Alien vs. Predator

Posted by Shannon Bennett Categories: Sci-Fi/Horror, FOX, 24, Talent,

Reiko Aylesworth veteran is strapping on the big guns for her starring role in the upcoming Alien vs. Predator: Requiem hitting theaters December 25th.

Along with being beyond thrilled to see the much-loved actress who portrayed Michelle Dessler in 24, we’re also glad to see that they’ve changed the subtitle to Requiem, from the previous “Survival of the Fittest.”

Clearly, someone at FOX did a little homework and realized that they’d gotten the evolutionary term wrong, and Alien vs. Predator: Natural Selection didn’t sound quite as hardcore.  At least now we don’t have to speculate about the reproductive abilities of Aliens and Predators, though I do admit, I would pay $7 to see one of those dreadlocked creatures sitting primly in a fertility clinic and earnestly inquiring, “But, why?”

Anyway, Reiko seems to have taken on a Sigourney Weaver-esque role, with a weapon on one arm and a child in the other.  I’m ready to see her kick some Alien/Predator tail.  It’s a step up from the terrorists. Also on the list of leads is Rescue Me’s Steven Pasquale.  Perhaps he’s Reiko’s love interest? Even better, maybe he’s the conservationist psycho that shows up in all of these movies trying to save the monsters, and she has to take him out for the good of humanity.

I know what I’m doing this Christmas.
