Madonna Tell-All: Do You Care?

Madonna’s plan was “to rule the world,” when she spoke to Dick Clark on American Bandstand. The then-80s singer was decked out in her black lace best and still singing songs like “Borderline” at the time. How were we to know she would become one of the world’s biggest stars, winning accolades in not just the music industry but movies as well? Irreverent and irrepressible, Madonna quickly became the queen of pop.
It was only a matter of time before somebody released a tell-all book detailing her exploits. I just thought it would be Sean Penn.

Details from New Hugh Hefner Biography

While one would expect sexy details in a profile of Hugh Hefner, the interesting thing about Steven Watts’ new book is that most of his accounts are true.
To assist with Mr. Playboy: Hugh Hefner and the American Dream, The Girls Next Door star gave the author access to personal documents. As a result, the upcoming release is - in Hugh’s words - the “most authoritative book ever written” about him.
So what should curious readers come to expect from Mr. Playboy? The tales include an attempted wife-swapping with his Playboy co-founder, a sexual encounter with sister-in-law (with his brother’s permission), a “one-time homosexual experience” and a homemade porno. And that’s all probably in just Chapter One.
Well - if that proposed biopic ever gets off the ground, Robert Downey Jr. will probably have a lot of ground to cover!

German Wikipedia To Be Printed

It seems that Wikipedia is entering the real world, beginning in Germany. The company is planning to publish a hardcover copy of the Internet tome to be named “The One-Volume Wikipedia Encyclopedia.” It will be composed of 50,000 of the 740,000 most searched terms. The first volume, which will be printed in September, may be a hint of things to come, as well as a new chapter in how to make money for Wikipedia. Remember to uncap your red pen to anonymously update and edit the book on its first read-through.

Is Where the Wild Things Are Scaring Children?

Scores of parents have used Where the Wild Things Are to help put their children to sleep. Unfortunately, a viewing of Spike Jonze‘s film adaptation could reportedly leave those same children with a few nightmares.
Jonze, the Oscar-nominated director behind Being John Malkovich, has been in the process of bringing Maurice Sendak’s children’s book to the big screen. Unfortunately, poor test screenings may have forced Warner Bros. to push the film’s release date to 2009.
According to internet reports, children were so frightened by the scary images, they left the theater crying. (Well that’s no good.) One tester supposedly said, “The things are not cute. Max comes off a bit weird and off-putting. He slaps his mom! And he seems confused and not charming at all.”
Well, if it makes Spike feel any better, I thought Tim Burton would do great things with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - and that movie creeped me out as well. So if nothing else, at least he’ll be keeping good company.

Lindsay Lohan to Tell Her Story?

Rumor has it that Razzie-nominated actress Lindsay Lohan may be making ready to write her memoirs. Gossip suggests Lohan is motivated by a single need: money. Varied reports have Lohan borrowing money from friends and quickly running out of funds, though how this is possible I simply can’t say.
The book, reportedly, will talk about Lohan’s troubles with substance abuse (and subsequent trips to rehab) and what it’s like to be a big star in a small world. I’m less interested in what the book’s about and more interested in another compelling question: is she writing it herself, or using a ghostwriter? There’s a good chance the readers will never know.

The Unauthorized Tom Cruise Biography

When you put yourself in the public eye in a very bold way, you have to expect at least a little backlash. Could that be what’s happening to couch-jumping and overzealous Tom Cruise right this moment? Andrew Morton’s Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography (which you can buy right now for less than twenty bucks online) talks at great length about Cruise and his various women, rumors concerning this love life and of course, Scientology. The media has already reported that Morton may be getting sued by Cruise and the Scientology Church for the mind-boggling sum of $100 million. Doesn’t matter. The book hit the shelves January 15, no matter what Cruise or anyone else has to say about it.
Before the book’s release, an excerpt of the prose was released which detailed the inner circle of Scientology followers, showing just how important Cruise’s role is therein. Followers of the religion, which is based on a series of books by author L. Ron Hubbard, have taken a lot of flak from the press (and the spoofers). The Buzz About ‘The Secret Life of Bees’

The Secret Life of Bees is one bee movie which will boast A-list stars. An adaptation of the best-selling book, the story is a coming-of-age tale which focuses on two friends. Queen Latifah, Jennifer Hudson, and Sophie Okonedo are already signed up, while negotiations with Dakota Fanning and Alicia Keys are just on the verge of being wrapped up.
Set in the 1960s American south, The Secret Life of Bees is about teen Lily Owens (the role undoubtedly going to Fanning) and her pal Rosaleen (Hudson). The pair leave their homes on a quest to discover the truth about Lily’s deceased mother. While in South Carolina, the two meet three sisters who keep bees (Latifah, Okonedo and Keys). Since the script was completed pre-strike, this is one movie project that may not be quickly canceled.
Right now, Fox Searchlight plans to release the flick in 2008.

The Rise And Fall Of Britney Spears: Who’s To Blame?
Forget about Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan. The year 2007 belonged to Britney Spears. And not in a, “Hey, Britney Spears is the sexiest women alive and sold a lot of records” kind of way. No, it’s more like, “Hey, Britney Spears split from her back-up dancer husband, had her disgusting hoo-ha and c-section scar plastered all over the internet, shaved all her hair off, lost custody of her children and had a comeback performance/album that bombed.” Yeah, she’s had that kind of year. And frankly, I’m pretty freakin’ tired of seeing her face every time I turn on the TV or go online and having to listen to every step of the “Britney custody saga” reported as legitimate news.
This woman is a disaster. Let’s make that point very clear from the outset. She is clearly a very unstable woman in need of some very serious help, and she’s not getting it. And now that it’s being reported that yet another member of the Spears clan has her tin-roof rusted, I think we need to take a step back and take a look at the big picture. Who is really to blame for the downfall of one of the biggest names and faces in, not only music, but pop culture as a whole? Who is responsible for the destruction of Britney Spears?
