Keira Knightley’s Curvy Campaign

Keira Knightley in her latest Coco Mademoiselle adPirates of the Caribbean starlet Keira Knightley‘s breasts have reportedly been digitally-enhanced in her latest campaign for Chanel. The 24-year-old actress - famed for her slender figure—looks decidedly curvier in the advertisements for the French fashion house’s Coco Mademoiselle perfume, in which her chest is covered only by a pair of braces. Her face also looks a lot smoother and airbrushing expert Chris Bickmore claims Keira’s appearance has definitely been enhanced.

He said: “Her face has definitely been retouched, there are no lines or wrinkles at all. The whites in her eyes have been made a cleaner white and there are no lines on her neck, body or even the back of her hand where there would definitely be some detail. Her breasts has had some shading added to it to give it the effect of being rounder and more pert and it has also been increased in size slightly.”

Ads with sound hit Xbox 360 dashboard

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Culture, Microsoft, Xbox 360, Xbox Live,

Well, how’s this for a slap in the face? It looks like ads that have sound incorporated into them have come to the dashboard. As you can see in the video above, the ad appears in a tile, and if you bring that tile into primary view, sound automatically plays - even if you don’t select the ad. That’s pretty low, considering you paid for the console, paid for the games, and more than likely, pay $50 a year for an Xbox LIVE Gold subscription. Here’s hoping that in the Xbox 360 Fall 2009 dashboard update doesn’t bring even more advertising with it.

Longer Mad Men Episodes Arrive in August

Mad Men

, the series about a fictional advertising agency, will have its share of commercials next season. This will mean extra work for our DVRs.

To accommodate an increase of ads while maintaining the same amount of drama, episodes will run longer than before. The AMC program will now overlap slightly into the 11:00 hour.

“The two minutes is troubling and I’m fighting it,” creator Matthew Weiner wrote in an online chat. “I am obviously a huge advocate of advertising and I love the ‘madvertising,’ but I am fighting the urge to change the show at this time, especially when the financials are meager and the urge to TiVo will just be further encouraged. If you oppose it, I see no reason not to let them know. I will make the best show I can, no matter what, rest assured.”

Season 3 is set to premiere on Sunday, August 16 @ 10pm. A marathon of Season 2 episodes will precede that debut on Monday, August 10.

SpiralFrog Goes Under

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Corporate News, Internet, Music,

RIPQuietly, SpiralFrog stopped croaking last Thursday. The company had been in trouble last year and issued secured notes to borrow about $9 million. Launched in August 2006, the site offered free downloads and featured advertising to pay for the privilege. It launched with Universal and took almost 2 years to add EMI. While the weak economy and having CEO changes may be part of the reason for the demise, it probably didn’t help that the files were DRM-protected.

Target Women: A look at the hilarity of holiday jewelry

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Videos, Women, Jewelry,

You’ve gotta admit, this episode of Target Women is fairly hysterical. I mean, how often do we see those commercials on TV where a guys surprises his girl with some sort of diamond-encrusted piece of jewelry, which then portrays the woman to be just about the happiest person on earth? We’re just happy that someone has finally taken these advertisers to task. Nice work. Your thoughts?

Gap Proceeds with Jennifer Hudson Ad Spots

Jennifer Hudson for The Gap

The day after Halloween, the Christmas season began. It will not end until January (decorations and store returns linger for days after the actual event). And since retailers are constantly trying to skip Halloween altogether and start the buy-friendly holiday as early as September, the Gap has moved ahead with their ad campaign. In the ads, potential customers will see a smiling, red-swathed spreading her holiday spirit. For some viewers, it feels at odds with Hudson’s tragic .

Could the Gap really be this tacky?

Never worry, holiday shoppers, this mega retailer would never step into a potential PR landmine without covering all the bases. A rep for the chain has confirmed that Jennifer Hudson herself approved the use of her image, even at this upsetting time.

“She said she wanted to be a part of it and that we should move forward,” said Gap spokesperson Olive Doyne, who added that Hudson was given the option of backing out of the campaign completely. The Oscar-winning actress was photographed for the spots last July.

You can see her, part of the “Shine Your Own Star” campaign, smiling from magazines, newspapers and billboards throughout this shopping season. Several other stars are also part of the campaign.

Microsoft Kiosk

Microsoft, in a clever move, located an “I’m a PC” recording kiosk outside an Apple Store in Birmingham, England. By the way, if you really are a PC, you can upload a photo or video online and you might find yourself in one of their commercials. The company has already selected several of them in ads that are airing on network TV and are part of a $300 million advertising campaign. We’re all for any idea that doesn’t feature Gates and Seinfeld.

Barack Advertises in Burnout Paradise

Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Video Games,

Burnout Paradise ScreenshotWe already have seen evidence of advertising in video games. Still reaching out to techie voters, the Obama campaign now has a billboard in the Xbox 360 game Burnout Paradise. Any advertiser can buy space, including those with presidential ambition. On the other side of the fence, the McPalin group has sent a letter to YouTube complaining that the site doesn’t consider fair use in videos before taking some of them down. You can read the entire document at Techdirt.
