Mac mini shipments come to an end?

Posted by Aaron Zollo Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Rumors,

Mac mini

The Mac mini has had a good run, but it sounds like Apple has decided to give the mini the ax.  The smallest and cheapest Mac is no longer shipping or available for order, according to a couple large retailers in Europe say Gizmodo.  Apple has a large financial call taking place today in which the mini is expected to get cut from the Mac lineup.  Lets hope this is in preparation for an upcoming Mac mini (Mac nano?) at January’s MacWorld Expo as many suspected the mini to get a makeover, not a going away present.

The Mac Mini is still available on the Apple store, so you may want to get it now if you were thinking it over.

Eminem back with Relapse

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Rumors, Videos, Hip-Hop & Rap,

It’s been years since we heard from rap superstar Eminem, but just as quickly as he disappeared from the scene four years ago, talk of his return is taking over at the water cooler of hip hop. His last original album was Encore (iTunes), back in 2004. A year later he released a greatest hits album, Curtain Call, with no new material on it. Then in 2006 he led a project called The Re-Up, but again, his lyrical contributions were sparse. Just when we were about to write off Slim Shady, we got word that he was going to be dropping an album by the end of the year. We figured that was near impossible, so we didn’t report on it. Then, out of nowhere, everywhere we turned we were reading quotes from Eminem himself, saying he has been back in the studio, and is aiming at getting his album, Relapse, out the door before the end of 2008. That means sometime in the next 9 weeks or so.

A taster track, “I’m Having a Relapse”, has already been leaked to the Internet, and is featured in the video above. Do be aware that there is some offensive language in the track. Rumor has it that Dr. Dre is producing most of the album (which likely explains the delay in his album, Detox,) and if that is the case, then we can likely expect a return to the roots of The Slim Shady LP (iTunes) and The Marshall Mathers LP (iTunes), both runaway hits. 50 Cent is also reportedly working with Eminem on the album as well. Hopefully, we’ll find out if Em is truly back again before Christmas.

Watch Britney Spears’ Womanizer Video

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music Videos, Pop,

Forget the preview pics. Now it’s time to watch Britney’s new “Womanizer” video in full.

In the clip, Spears plays a sexy waitress, a sexy limo driver and a sexy office worker. (Sense a theme?) She also spends a great deal of time in the nude. (I guess there’s no point in wasting that toned up body.) Not surprisingly, “Womanizer” was directed by Joseph Kahn, the same man who had her in a barely-there sparkly number for her “Toxic” video.

Britney’s next album, Circus, drops on December 2.

Apple announces redesigned MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro

It took them about eight months since the last spec bump in the line, but we are still stoked that today announced that their newly redesigned is here, and available immediately. The notebooks are still sporting their aluminum exterior, but now they are built using a new process that involves carving a solid piece of aluminum rather than the old school welding technique. That means one part rather than many, which Apple is calling the “Unibody.” You’ll also notice, fairly quickly, that the MacBook Pro now sports an iMac-ish black bezel around the screen, along with a glass covering. Back to that whole aluminum and glass thing.

The display will now only be available in a glossy finish, gone are the days of matte Apple notebooks. The trackpad has also been re-imagined as well. It’s made entirely from glass, and no longer has a separate button. Instead, the entire trackpaad is the button. The glass trackpad is multi-touch compatible, and Apple has introduced new gestures in the product to boot.

Apple introduces LED Cinema Display: 24-inch, $899

Apple LED Cinema Display

After many years of remaining stagnant, finally gave their Cinema Display line a nice redesign. The new 24” LED Cinema Display looks similar to what you’d find in an iMac. Aluminum casing, black bezel along the front, LED backlit, built-in MagSafe connector, and a built-in iSight camera with microphone. That last one is something we’ve been waiting for, for far too long. Unfortunately, not everything is all fun and games with the new Cinema Display, as it appears that - at least for the time being - these new Cinema Displays are only compatible with the new MacBook, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air that were announced today, which all incorporate the DisplayPort. There is currently no way to connect a Mac Pro, iMac, or older notebook to one of these. Let’s hope this gets remedied quickly.

You can pick up the new 24-inch LED Cinema Display in November for $899.

MacBook Air upgrade

During this mornings notebook event, announced that the MacBook Air was getting a bump in some of its specs. First and foremost, the Air is getting updated to the new NVIDIA 9400M graphics chipset, which should be a nice upgrade. Even better, if SSD is your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that a 128GB solid state drive is now available, along with a standard 120GB drive if that is more your thing. microDVI has been replaced by a mini DisplayPort, which we are seeinc across the board with Apple. You can grab the base model for $1799, or go with the SSD model with 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo for the lowered price of $2499 (that one is due in November.)
