MvixThe Mvix (MV-2500U) HDD-based, Ultra-Portable Media Center allows you to share videos, music, movies, and endless family photos on your TV. The Mvix can also be put in cars, RVs, or boats and has a built-in setup menu for simplicity with firmware upgrades to keep it timely. Connect it to your PC and it functions like an external USB 2.0 hard drive. It is a basic drag-and-drop operation and comes with a ergonomic remote. The mini-drive can handle MPEG1/2/4, DVD (VOB, IFO), DivX, XviD, BivX or VCD (DAT) as well as support for AC3, MP2, MP3, WMA, OGG and M3U music files at a price of $149.00 without the drive. That will set you back another $99.00.

WiFi Internet RadioAcoustic Energy is working on what they say will be the planet’s first WiFi Internet Radio.  It will be able to reach about 99% of radio stations online through broadband connection anywhere in your house. AE claims there will be no pops, crackles or signal coverage problems. Expected out in November, there will be no subscription fee involved with the radio. Look for a MSRP of ~£199 (~$394.00.) At that price, we think we will stick to radio ramblings via our computer.

ASIMO

One of our fave robotic buds, Honda’s ASIMO, will be coming to Detroit May 13 to conduct the city’s Symphony Orchestra as part of a performance with cellist Yo-Yo Ma. He will be performing to “Impossible Dream” to draw attention to the DSO’s music education program for younger listeners. He will also be on display to music students May 14, who get to learn what he can do as well as get a lesson from the Master of Strings. We will try to get a peek at the bot when he arrives, so if you plan on going, save us a seat.

Nokia MusicNokia must be pleased that Sony BMG has teamed up with the Universal Music Group to allow their subscribers to have access to their music catalog. They join companies such as A&M, Geffen Records, Decca, and Motown Records. The company’s “Comes With Music” program, which started up last December, allows some users, depending on the model of phone, to download any of their songs on their cell phones or computers. Those phones should become available in the 3rd Quarter of this year at as yet undisclosed prices. The UMG subscription service will allow downloaders to own the tunes after a year.

Zune Audible

Hey, if the news from earlier didn’t suit your fancy because you just aren’t into e-books, then maybe you prefer your books in audio form. If you do, you’re in luck if you are a owner. Paul Thurrott of WinSuperSite got word from Zune support that Audible compatibility is coming by the end of the year:

While we do not have an exact date as to when the device will be officially AudibleReady, we expect to make the Zune compatible before years end. Our Device Center on our website will be updated upon the Zune becoming compatible, so please be sure to check there periodically.

Not too bad. With this, plus games coming soon as well, the Zune is shaping up quite nicely when compared to the , wouldn’t you say?

BoomboyVahakn Matossian’s Boomboy can hang on my desk top any time. The loudspeaker is hand carved from walnut and has a bass duct running through his body and a Bowers & Wilkins driver. The prototype holds a pencil in his little fist, but you can substitute a cable or some earbuds. Vahakn claims he has a “loud voice and naughty temperament, slight drinking habit, good with the ladies.” We can vouch for the latter, although we wonder if the designer was describing himself.
