SwiMP3For aspiring Michael Phelps’ who like to do their laps to music, the Finis SwiMP3 is a perfect answer. The waterproof player uses bone-conduction technology so the sound vibrations are transferred from the cheekbone to the inner ear. Attach to any snorkeling mask or goggles and get 10 hours of tunes before needing a recharge. The integrated panel has on/off, volume, next/previous track, pause, and shuffle control and the 256MB of storage allows about 60 titles. The SwiMP3 has a MSRP of $149.99.

RIPQuietly, SpiralFrog stopped croaking last Thursday. The company had been in trouble last year and issued secured notes to borrow about $9 million. Launched in August 2006, the site offered free downloads and featured advertising to pay for the privilege. It launched with Universal and took almost 2 years to add EMI. While the weak economy and having CEO changes may be part of the reason for the demise, it probably didn’t help that the files were DRM-protected.

Pandora is also streaming their music service with included custom and pre-made stations with its music genome technology. If you already have Pandora, you can log in on your existing station. The two applications will work with Blackberry Bolds, Pearls and Curves and is supported by Verizon, AT&T and Sprint. Unfortunately, T-Mobile phones are not compatible.

Wood Turntable

Joel Scilley certainly knows how to make a mean custom turntable. Some are his designs, but he also custom makes ones from others’ plans. All of them feature an Origin Live DC motor controller and quality bearings and are made with redwood burl, walnut and other wood. Featured at the recently opened FiveTen Studio in Oakland, the Audiowood turntables are all available for sale and Joel can also create audio devices such as speakers, racks and stands.

Muziic Screenshot

Clever 15 year-old David Nelson has devised Muziic Player, a free interface that allows you to download tunes from YouTube. With the encoder, you only need to drag and drop or browse through MP3 files and press “encode.” There is also a search bar for single or artist and other features include playback and volume control, and playlist management. You can even go as far as adding an album cover by dragging and dropping JPG, .BMP or .PNG images. Unfortunately, YouTube is not thrilled with the idea.

A YouTube spokesperson claimed, “We’re looking into it now. On a preliminary review, however, it appears that the site violates our API terms of use.”

Here’s hoping that they can work something out so that the technology and David’s hard work will not go to waste.

We admit that we occasionally watch reality shows, especially when we hear that Apple’s co-founder is appearing on one. Steve Wozniak first appeared on a Segway to meet his partner Karina Smirnoff for his stint on “Dancing With the Stars.” We guess that was so he could convince her that he had some physical ability. We really like that he tried to turn his performance into something mathmatecal during rehearsal. The two performed a cha cha to the tune “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet” and unfortunately got the lowest score of the evening, a 13 out of 30.
