Sony has updated their USB Walkman E-Series, the 2GB NW-E042 and 4GB NW-043, and added an 8GB NW-E044. With a 3-line color LCD display, it also has FM tuner, SonicStage V music management software and support MP3, ATRAC, AAC, WAV and WMA. Unfortunately they don’t support DRM music, however each comes with a Stype-UP Panel, an interchangeable skin. The Walkmen come with their own USB cable for charging and sync and EX earbuds with 13.5mm drivers. Look for them in mid-May in Japan with prices ranging from ~$81.00 to ~$132.00.

YouTube and UMG to Create Vevo

The Universal Music Group and YouTube are working on a new media service. Vevo will feature all of UMG’s videos on one site by using YouTube’s “leading edge video technology and user community.” Launching later this year, there will be access to UMG’s catalog of music videos and will include professional, artist and user generated content. Tunes can be accessed through the Vevo channel and a branded embedded player.

A Stockholm court found the 3 founders and one “patron” behind The Pirate Bay guilty of collaboration to violate copyright laws. They were sentenced to a year in jail and must pay $3.6 million in damages to media companies. The site allows free exchange of movies, music, games and software with its 3.5 million users but does not host them. As yet, there is no order to shut down the site and the defendants plan on appealing the judgment.

YouTube Symphony Orchestra Goes On Tour

Those who say social networking sites have no redeeming qualities haven’t heard of the YouTube Symphony Orchestra with conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. Less than 100 were chosen from more than 3,000 submissions and participated in a 3 day workshop before playing at Carnegie Hall last night. Next they will be going on a worldwide tour. iRiver and Speedo have teamed to create the LZR Aquabeat Racer. This ergonomic, rubber MP3 player can hold 2GB of memory and will play about 30 minutes per charge. Not only is the device waterproof, it has a depth limit of about 10 ft. It features basic controls such as play/volume/stop/change track and supports MP3 and WMA files. The Aquabeat is only in Japan for now for ¥12,800 ($145.00.)

So, you know that Zune HD we brought up the other day? Looks like it is definitely the real deal. In fact, Neowin just published a list of specs that they were able to confirm through Microsoft. We should make note that this isn’t a full list of specs either, but rather what Microsoft was willing to let out for the moment. Take a look:

- NVIDIA Tegra powered
- 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 120GB versions
- HDMI Connection to stream straight to your TV

Hyoutan iPod Speakers

The hyoutan is technically a type of cucumber that can be eaten and also used as a sponge, gourd, birdhouse or instrument housing. Bird Electronic in Japan decided that it would also make a pretty good speaker that would produce a “soft and natural” sound. The Hyoukan Speaker Double cone has a mini-adapter to connect to your iPod or other audio player. They can be hung or placed on a shelf and come with a MSRP of ¥ 18,500 ($185.00.)
