Yelp check-ins coming to iOS 6 Maps

It looks like Apple has even more in store for its mapping solution that'll make its debut in iOS 6 this fall. According to a Bloomberg report, iPhone users will be able to use Maps directly to check in to the local spots that they're visiting courtesy of Yelp's check-in service. Of course, this leaves us a bit confuses, as almost no one uses Yelp check-ins when compared to Foursquare or Facebook, but we're guessing that Apple doesn't wanna get too reliant on any one company for iOS features. Still, in this case, we think Yelp is a bit of a disappointment for system-level iOS 6 check-ins.

We've had a bunch of leaked images of the purported next-generation iPhone (iPhone 5? iPhone 2012? The new iPhone?), and if the rumors are true, then these 3D renders that were created using the leaked images, should tell the tale of what the device will actually look like--and we think it looks fantastic. The black iPhone gets blacker, with a dark frame, while the white model maintains the chrome frame and aluminum colored back. Get a look at more of the images in our gallery. If you want the 3D model for yourself to play with in your favorite 3D program, you can grab it from Martin Hajek for $50.

The Retina MacBook Pro can power four displays at once

Here's another fun tidbit about the MacBook Pro with Retina display--it can power four displays at once. In addition to its own display, you can connect two displays to the two Thunderbolt ports, and a third external display to the HDMI port. One thing we haven't tried, though, is also connecting to a fourth external display using AirPlay mirroring. First, we just don't have that many displays at our disposal, and second, we just aren't that ridiculous.

OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4 12a248 update released

Apple has released an update to OS X Mountain Lion Developer Preview 4, made available through the Mac App Store, to developers using the build that was released during WWDC 2012. If you're running Mountain Lion DP4, just launch the Mac App Store and check your Updates tab to find the software. It's a little over 1 GB in size, and will require a reboot to install.

Apple Stores tilt MacBook Pro displays 70 degrees to make you touch them

If you thought that the placement of anything in an Apple Store by employees wasn't planned with the utmost precision, think again. It turns out that everything, even down to the exact tilt of the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air displays, have an intricate science around them. Get this--each morning Apple Store employees use a leveling app like Simply Angle to help set the tilt of the displays of all the notebook computers to exactly 70 degrees.

We just hit you with our full Apple iPad Smart Case review, and you should really check that out if you're considering picking up Apple's first full case for its popular tablet. In addition to the written review, we've put together a gallery of images showing off the good and the bad--and there's a lot of bad in our mind. As you'll see, ports don't line up with the holes in the case, and there's an odd lip all around the perimeter that just makes it awkward to hold. This week Apple released the iPad Smart Case, a polyurethane product that covers and protects both the front and back of the the iPad shell. Compatible with both the iPad 2 and the new third-generation iPad, this is the first full case that Apple has offered for its popular tablet, and it's being sold for $49. BlackBerry PlayBook hacked to run iPad apps

A BlackBerry developer known as Businesscat2000 has accomplished an impressive feat--he was able to hack his BlackBerry PlayBook tablet to run iOS apps. As you can see in the video footage after the break, this enterprising chap is able to run iPad apps on his RIM tablet, and even gets iOS apps running on a Windows PC.
