8GB iPhone 3GS on the way?

It looks like Apple is getting ready to replace the aging 8GB iPhone 3G that currently sells for $99 with a newer iPhone 3GS model, if their packaging is to be believed. A user on the German apfetalk discussion forum posted the image above, which is the label on the iPhone 3G 8GB box, and while he did receive a regular iPhone 3G, the box clearly says “iPhone 3GS v2.2 8GB” and has us thinking that Apple is finally ready to have the entire product line fall under the 3GS brand. Heck, the 8GB iPhone 3GS is a year-and-a-half old now, and we all know that Apple is set to release an all new iPhone model this summer, so it all makes sense to us.

Okay guys, as much as we like our Mophie Juice Packs for keeping the iPhone juiced on the go, it’d be downright irresponsible of us not to bring this fantastic iPhone backup batery from Monoprice to your attention. The same company that brings you stupid-cheap HDMI cables is now selling a 2200mAh iPhone and iPod battery that’ll recharge your iPhone almost twice from near death, and the cost is only $15.23 - and it’s even less if you buy more than one. SquareUp iPhone payment service launched by Twitter co-founder

New iPhone credit card payment service SquareUp has finally been unveiled, and we’ve gotta say, it’s got our attention. The brainchild of Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, SquareUp aims to be a simple, sleek, inexpensive, and charitable credit card payment processing service. It works on the iPhone and iPod touch, in conjunction with a credit card reader that plugs in to the audio jack. You get payer verification, receipts that can be sent via email or text message, and receipt signing using your finger. Even cooler, in our opinion, is that Square will donate one penny of every transaction to a charity of the seller’s choice.
If Square plays their cards right, they will be a force to reckon with in the small business arena. The service is in limited beta right now, but Square says it’ll be fully open in 2010. We’ll see if we can’t get a beta account to give you a better look at how it all works.

I know a lot of you are doing your Black Friday 2009 shopping online today, and apart from the great stuff that’s going on in the Amazon Black Friday sale, we know that Apple gear is all the rage. To that end, we had a quick tip for you. Yes, Apple has a Black Friday sale going on, and you will find some discounts on a bunch of Macs and iPods, among other things. However, for the true deals, be sure to hit the MacMall Black Friday sale. They are an Apple reseller, and they’ve got Macs at deeper discounts than Apple is offering, and with freebies thrown in to boot. They are the place to shop today if you want great deals on Apple products.

10 gadget sightings in Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance music video

Lady Gaga's music video have typically always featured some sort of high tech gadget, more often than not she has someone from the Beats by Dr. Dre line, among other things, prominently displayed. Earlier today, her Bad Romance music video was released, and we thought we'd take a moment to highlight ten sightings of tech and gadgetry that we spotted while watching.

Hey, if you are gonna feature gadgets in a music video, you might as well bring in the iconic digital audio player that made everyone into a geek, right? The Apple iPod classic is the first gadget featured in Bad Romance. Deservedly so, we say. You can pick up the 160GB iPod classic from Apple for $249.

Apple just released the second big update to Snow Leopard with Mac OS X 10.6.2. You can fire up Software Update right now to grab the good, which on my system looks to be about 500 MB in size. Here is a look at some of the fixes
- an issue that might cause your system to logout unexpectedly
- a graphics distortion in Safari Top Sites
- Spotlight search results not showing Exchange contacts
- a problem that prevented authenticating as an administrative user
- issues when using NTFS and WebDAV file servers
- the reliability of menu extras
- an issue with the 4-finger swipe gesture
- an issue that causes Mail to quit unexpectedly when setting up an Exchange server
- Address Book becoming unresponsive when editing
- a problem adding images to contacts in Address Book
- an issue that prevented opening files downloaded from the Internet
- Safari plug-in reliability
- general reliability improvements for iWork, iLife, Aperture, Final Cut Studio, MobileMe, and iDisk
- an issue that caused data to be deleted when using a guest account
There’s a lot there, and that’s without mention of the rumored killing of Intel Atom support in 10.6.2 as well. If you are running OS X on a Hackintosh, you may want to wait and see how this plays out. As for the rest of you, get to downloading!
