BlackBerry 6 OS shown at RIM WES 2010 keynote
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smartphones, Corporate News, Software, Videos,
This morning at WES 2010, RIM finally took the wraps off of their upcoming BlackBerry 6 operating system, introducing it with the video you see above. While it’s easy to be captivated by the dancers, when you focus on the actual screen activity being teased here, you see that this is all focused on touchscreen gestures, but we are sure that RIM won’t be throwing away that true QWERTY keyboard anytime soon. Also, interestingly enough, the web browser got almost no play at all in the video. Maybe they’ve still got some work to do on that one. Still, it’s nice to see the company progressing and aiming to bring BlackBerry devices a bunch of new hotness in the near future.

HP Slate gunning for iPad with cameras, USB, SD slot, and iTunes
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Handhelds, PC / Laptop, Videos,
Take a look at the latest marketing video for the HP Slate, the tablet computer that should be launching fairly soon from HP. As you can see in the video, it appears that HP has built a program that runs in Windows 7 to give a custom tablet appearance, but when all is said and done, this is really just a touchscreen tablet running a full version of Windows 7, not a mobile operating system. Some will, of course, see that as a plus.

How Wired Magazine will look on the iPad
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Software, Videos,
Above you’ll find a demo that Wired magazine gave during SXSW 2010, showing off what they figure their app will look like on portable tablets like the iPad and HP Slate. As you can see, it’s more than just a color PDF reader, as they have video elements and animated images in the magazine content, so they’ve actually taken the time to tailor the reading experience to the device. Consider us subscribed once this is available.

How to win at ChatRoulette: Use a piano!
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Internet, Music, Videos,
Okay, so ChatRoulette is all the rage right now (although, admittedly, I have yet to give it a try,) and we think we found someone that you’ll want to be on the lookout for when you are randomly talking to um, random, individuals. If you come across Merton, the improvising piano player, give him a moment. Hit up the video above to see why. He definitely had us laughing with some of his classic lines.

Steve Jobs hates Google CEO Eric Schmidt?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Google, Rumors, Videos,
Those are some strong words, but if CNBC journalists and analysts are to be believed, the relationship between Apple and Google is so strained as they both compete to win in the mobile space that it has come to a point where “Steve Jobs simply hates Eric Schmidt.” Hey, if that hared fuels the fire of innovation and competition, then it’s the consumers who will walk away the winners in this battle. Amiright?

At CES 2010, Microsoft gave us a sneak peek at the Windows 7-based HP slate tablet device. We didn’t get much info at all, but more has trickled out since then. However, now HP is taking an obvious jab at Apple and the iPad, having released the video above that shows off the slate tablet running Flash and Adobe Air, right on the device. Of course, the highlight here comes near the end, when the person playing with the HP Slate pulls up Hulu and begins watching content right on the device, something that the iPad can’t do just yet (although we are hearing that Hulu is working hard to become iPad-compatible.) Hey, one thing the iPad has on the Slate? It has a solid launch date that is just a little over 3 weeks away.

Adobe answers Steve Jobs and his thoughts on Flash on iPad and iPhone
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Handhelds, Software, Videos,
Our pal Robert Scoble sat down with Anup Murarka, the Director of Technology Strategy and Partner Development for the Flash platform, and asked him about his thoughts on the perception that Steve Jobs has been giving to the press and consumers regarding Flash. You know, thinks like that it is a battery killer, crashes all the time, etc. Anup talks about Flash being implemented on mobile devices, their public bug tracker, and the significant enhancements in Flash 10.1 that seem to be overlooked.
It all sounds good, but still, don’t expect to see Flash running on your iPad anytime soon.

TV gets way more green screening than you thought
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Home Entertainment, Videos,
The Stargate Studios virtual backlot reel video above does a great job at showing off just how many virtual sets are used in television shows. We aren’t just talking about intense action scenes either, because a lot of what’s featured is just people walking around on a city sidewalk. Interesting and eye-opening, to say the least.

Apple releases Family Travel iPhone ad
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Software, Videos,
Apple recently changed directions just a bit with the iPhone commercials, which now feature voices of people in different roles talking about the apps they use during certain experiences. Case in point, the latest ad, titled ‘Family Travel.’ It’s got a mom talking about using various apps to check flight status, check in right on the iPHone 3GS, watch movies, and even turn off the lights at home, remotely. Good approach, wouldn’t you say?

What is Google Voice? A video explanation
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Google, Internet, Videos,
Google Voice, formerly GrandCentral before Google acquired it, has been around for a few years, but the company is really just now starting to push the product hard. They’ve put together a great channel on YouTube that describes each major feature (like voicemail transcription, personalized greetings, SMS to email, the mobile app, and more) individually, but we figured we’d throw the Google Voice overview up there so give you a taste of what we mean. Hit up the Google Voice YouTube channel to check out the rest of the video series, and to request an invite to the service.
