Okay, we knew that the Galaxy Tab was real, but it’s been pretty much shrouded in secrecy, until now. Samsung has unleashed an official teaser video, giving us mere glimpses of the Galaxy Tab, er, tablet device. What do we now know? Well, for starters, it’s got a 7-inch display (same as the rumored upcoming miniaturized ,) Android 2.2 Froyo, video calling (implying a front-facing camera,) Swype, HD movie playback, built-in ebook reader, GPS, and Flash support. The full reveal comes on September 2nd, which is nine days away. Seriously, we can’t wait.

Sick of entering a PIN every time you turn on your phone? Want something a bit more futuristic to go with the vastly improved OS of your smartphone? The University of Manchester has the answer - facial recognition.

In order to keep your identity safe in the very likely situation of misplacing your phone, the University of Manchester has created a sophisticated facial recognition technology called the Active Appearance modeling technique that locks in and tracks twenty-two of your facial features, even when upside down. The facial recognition technology was created as a way to access social media sites securely through your smartphone, but no word yet as far as how quickly it works in action. We’re big fans of the way that Apple has been pushing the feature on the commercials, but to be honest, we’ve never actually been able to partake in a FaceTime convo that was as touching as Apple makes them look. We think the video above is a more accurate depiction of what to expect!

Apple’s got a new commercial out, aiming to let us know all the things that the iPad is and can be. The ad is called “iPad is Delicious” and starts by showing off a cooking app, but it goes from there to show why it’s productive, artsy, current, friendly, learning, and yes, even magical. There are a myriad of camcorders, you’ve got devices and the that can shoot in high definition, even high-end DSLRs can now shoot great video. In an effort to help you decide between two of the more popular choices out there, Brandon Bloch put together this video comparison showing the pros and cons between the Canon 7D DSLR and the Barbie Video Girl digital camcorder accessory. Both have some nice qualities, as you’ll see in the video. You know you wanna watch.

BlackBerry Torch

This morning Research in Motion formally announced the much anticipated Torch (formerly the 9800,) and we must say, we’re kind of excited about it. The Torch has got a bunch of features that make it a formidable competitor in the smartphone space. Things like a full QWERTY keyboard portrait slider, 5 megapixel camera with flash, 3.2-inch touchscreen display (480x360,) 802.11n support, GPS, and much more. It’s got 4GB of internal storage and ships with a 4GB microSD card as well. 512MB RAM and a quad-band 3G radio that’ll let you use it across the world. One of the more interesting features is MEdia Sync, which lets you sync your content to the device right over WI-Fi. Oh, and did we mention that it runs the new operating system? AT&T has got the exclusive on this one, and it launches in nine days on AUgust 12th, available for $199 with a two-year contract.

We broke down the iPhone 4 AT&T upgrade pricing along with the method for easily checking your iPhone upgrade eligibility for you a few days ago, but we figured we’d share the video that AT&T put together on the subject as well. Basically, it’s that odd “Seth the Blogger Guy” from AT&T talking about what you can expect as either a current or new customer as it pertains to iPhone pricing and eligibility, as well as the new DataPlus and DataPro plans.

has taken their brand control measures to a ridiculous level this week, as they’re now even targeting major television talk shows that happen to parody their devices. So basically, super funny comedienne Ellen Degeneres played a skit showing how confusing using an could be, you know, just for laughs. Apple got wind of the situation, and someone actually reached out to the Ellen Show to let them know that they didn’t appreciate it. In the video above, Ellen apologizes, saying that she loves her iPhone, her , her iPod…and even IHOP. Classic.
