JetBlue testing In-flight email and IM
Posted by Lolita Beckwith Categories: Corporate News, Internet, Transportation, Wireless / WiFi,
It’s no secret that the airline industry has spared no expense in terms of inflight entertainment, from iPod connectivity to DirecTV channels to interactive gaming and more. But secretly, we bet many of you just want to catch up emails and chat via Instant Message…right? Well JetBlue is on the case: starting today, one of its A320 planes will be equipped with Wi-Fi. Yahoo! and Wi-Fi-enabled Blackberry users will be able to read email and IM their buddies during flights. And you know this is only the beginning: for better or worse, we’re sure in a few short years we’ll be able to surf the ‘net from our laptops while flying the friendly skies. Cool….

Who Needs Blue Suede Shoes When You Can Own the King’s Caddy?
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Internet, Transportation,

Elvis’ Estate has decided to sell a piece of the King that he personally customized. His 1965 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible is up for auction by Daniel Schmitt & Company through December 15 on eBay at a starting bid of $119,900.00. Co-created by Kustom King George Barris, the vehicle features 40 coats of gold paint, a gold-upholstered interior with guitar-shaped sun visors, and gold records mounted into the tonneau cover.
There is even low-rate financing available with payments of $1,220.00 with a down payment of $24,000.00. Unfortunately, the Caddy wasn’t finished until after Elvis’ death, but we are sure he have would said, “Thank ya vera much.” We think it is worth the price just for the tacky puffy dice on the rear view mirror.

Delta Literally Launched Under Water
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science, Transportation,

QU Inc.‘s new marine robot DELTA-100R can go to a depth of over 150 meters while being controlled with a joystick by someone on the surface. Unveiled at the International Robot Exhibition (IREX) 2007 in Tokyo, it features a color CCD cam inside. While we suspect that its main usage will be for seeking out a new species or in lost body searches, it might be an efficient means of looking for lost change at the bottom of your local pool.

Google Launches GPS-less Mapping
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Smartphones, Google, GPS, Transportation,
Google is back with more mapping fun. This time they have created a new mobile phone technology for those without GPS. My Location is now in more than twenty countries and lets you in on real-time traffic conditions, detailed directions, integrated searches, satellite images and interactive maps. It will work on most web-enabled phones, including Java, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, and the latest Nokia/Symbian. iPhone and Treo users will just have to wait their turn.
Not quite as accurate as GPS, Google says that locating the user’s phone is still in transition and hopes that will change in time. The company claims that it will not use any personal information on the user. No ads will be posted on the service, but we suspect it won’t be long before that becomes a reality, too.

Own A Piece of Ozzy
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Wearables, Internet, Music, Transportation,
We suppose that things are moving slowly for the Osbourne family as they are holding an auction at Julien’s in Beverly Hills as well as online this week. You can participate real time on the Auction Network if you can’t be there yourself. Bid on Ozzy’s Yamaha motor bike, a pair of his wire rim glasses, his Yellow Submarine Jukebox, or his Bentley Flying Spur. Also up on the block is the dress Sharon wore to meet the Queen and Zakk Wylde’s Signature Les Paul Custom Guitar. A portion of the proceeds are expected to go to Sharon’s Colon Cancer Foundation.

Moscow Fair Caters to the Wealthy
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Home Entertainment, Smart Home, Misc. Tech, Transportation,

We still enjoy seeing what those who have, buy, when it comes to electronics. After New York, it has been determined that Moscow has the highest concentration of millionaires. Hence, Quintessentially Russia, a concierge service, was born and its now second annual Moscow Millionaire Fair has just taken place. For an annual fee of £2,500 (~$5,100.00,) the company will provide almost anything, as long as it is legal. They offer such extreme gadgets as a diamond-encrusted Mercedes, a £125,000 (~$26,000.00) CD player, and a 154-inch TV screen. We think we will pass on the paisley-designed Benz, however.

Narita Airport Begins New Security System
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Science, Transportation,
This week, Japan’s Narita Airport began a new immigration security system that requires non-Japanese to have their fingerprints scanned and photos captured. Apparently, the time spent for each person was often over an hour as compared to the previous 15 to 20 minute wait. Tested by Justice Minister Hatoyama, there were a few bugs in the system, including one of the machine’s locking up and its cams not being able to photograph those who were on the tall side. Once the kinks are worked out, we expect that Big Brother will be watching in other airports as well.

Sakura Robot, for Princesses
Posted by Sheila Franklin Categories: Misc. Tech, Toys, Transportation, Wireless / WiFi,
She answers yes and no questions, tells fortunes and jokes, sings and can keep a secret (via a key in her controller.) Who is she? The Sakura Robot has all the girly features you want in a bot including fashion tips, a cutesy demeanor, and wearing pink. She comes with her very own Segway and wireless remote. We may prefer the more macho type bot, but we suspect this will be a big hit for the more feminine group this holiday season. You can find Sakura for ~$100.00 at Amazon.
