Make My Day iPhone iPad

We’re giving away ten copies of Make My Day for iPhone and iPad, which just hit the App Store this morning. The easiest way to describe the app is to have you think about those old-school Choose Your Own Adventure books. Remember those? Turn to page 4 to turn the key, or turn to page 27 to run away crying? Yeah, those. Well, instead of reading, the Make My Day app is a live-action choose your own adventure movie. You choose the paths that the characters will take as you are watching. It’s got 26 different scenes and 13 different endings, depending on which story branches you choose.

Here’s how to enter:

That’s it! We’ll send out the download codes on Twitter over DM, so be sure you follow the Gear Live account, otherwise we won’t be able to get it to you. For more info on the app, you can check out Make My Day on the App Store.

iWork 9.0.4

In an apparent effort to make it easier for the common-folk to publish eBooks, Apple has added the ability to export documents from Pages using the ePub format. As many of us know, ePub is the eBook standard used by Apple’s app, their eBook reader software for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad. The update also addresses other issues in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, but that’s the most significant change. You can grab the update now by firing up Software Update.

WP7

Keeping true to their promise to have devices out in time for the holiday season, Microsoft is getting ready to realase development tools to the public. The gold build will be released September 16th, and the Marketplace can start being bombarded with apps in the beginning of October. Apps are a key factor in solidifying Microsoft’s golden boy into the popular circle of smartphones.

With progress continuing to move forward on the Windows Phone 7 front, we can no longer doubt Microsoft’s ability to push a decent quality product out in time for the holiday season. Some other sources even speculate that devices carrying Windows Phone 7 OS may be out before Halloween, such as the Cetus pictured below.

JailbreakMe exploit source code

So you know that JailbreakMe site that let’s you jailbreak your iOS device? Well, Apple published an iPhone and iPad update today to plug that hole, and right after, iPhone hacker “comex” published the source code of the JailbreakMe site. Why is this relevant? Well, now any would-be evildoer has access to that exploit and can thusly infect any pre-iOS 4.0.2 device using the same exploit. So you have two options here if you want to stay safe. You can update to 4.0.2, or if you want to stay jailbroken, download the PDF Warning tool. One interesting thing in all this is that if you are running the original iPhone or iPod touch, Apple doesn’t have a fix for you. So you are essentially stuck with a vulnerable device unless you jailbreak it. How’s that for backwards?

iOS 4.0.2

Following up on their promise to quickly plug the gaping hole in MobileSafari that allowed a PDF exploit to jailbreak your iPhone using the JailbreakMe website, Apple has just released iOS 4.0.2 for the iPhone, and 3.2.2 for the iPad. There don’t seem to be any other changes other than plugging that hole, and remember, if you are already jailbroken and want to stay that way, hold off on updating. To anyone else, go for it—the update awaits.
