  Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed

Who could resist a chance to hobnob with Gene Simmons and Shannon Tweed? A plane ride for you and three guests will whisk you away to LA where you briefly get to be a part of the Simmons’ Family Jewels, metaphorically speaking. Have dinner with the rock star and the model, spend the night in luxury hotel accommodations, and know that you are helping out a worthy cause. The bidding is presently set at $15,201.09. All proceeds from the eBay auction, which commences April 4, will be donated to the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatrics AIDS Foundation.

KEROROWe are constantly impressed by the strides made in electronic guitars, but we found one that appeals to your inner child. The KERORO is made by Bandai, one of Japan’s foremost companies in all things toys, including video games, Tamagotchi, and Power Rangers. The electric guitar comes in two models, KERORO Gunso and Soul, and matching guitar picks are also available. Although we’re not sure if it can stay in tune, we think it will be a hit with our garage band. Contact Bandai for price and coming out date.

Dony Permedi’s animated video “Kiwi!” has won one of 7 of what we at Gear Live refer to as “Tubey” awards. Announced today, it joins other winners “OK Go’s” music video, “Ask a Ninja,” Terra Naomi’s “Say It’s Possible,” a vlogger known as “the winekone,” Australian Juan Mann’s “Free Hugs Campaign,” and Anthony Padilla and Ian Hecox, also known as “Smosh.” Jamie Byrne, head of product marketing, sees the competition as a way of rewarding the creativity on its site.

If you missed any of them or would like to see the other finalists, hang out at YouTube for a bit. Gear Live would like to congratulate all the winners as well as the runners up on behalf of vloggers everywhere.

iTunes logoWhen Microsoft unleashed havoc released it’s new Vista operating system, one of the many complaints from users was its incompatibility with Apple’s iTunes, at worst causing iPods to crash. Apple and Microsoft worked together to update iTunes and they’ve delivered. The newest version (7.1.1) is available now, and most of the problems with Vista have been resolved. However, this writer, a fed-up and frustrated

Vista user, is not taking any chances, and will wait until the next version of iTunes is released before diving in.

Casio CTK-710

In a kind of déjà vu, Casio has recalled approximately 12,000 Electronic Keyboards with batteries that may turn the instruments into explosive devices. The model CTK-710 contains serial numbers 7030001 to 7040400 and 7041901 to 7043500. Most of those targeted came from Casio’s website, Best Buy, Wal-mart, catalogues, online retailers, and musical instrument stores. We think that pretty much means everywhere you shop.

Although only 5 cases have been reported thusfar, if you have one of these and purchased it between last May and February 2007, Casio suggests you unplug it immediately, remove the battery, and contact them at (866) 800-4302 between 9 a.m. and 8 p.m. ET during the week for a free replacement.

Apple TV

It’s not exactly

mid-March, but it’s close enough. Apple has finally started shipping its Apple TV from its iStore. With a 40 GB hard drive that will store up to 50 hours of video, 25,000 photos, and 9,000 tunes, it has a hi-def 720p output. Standard features include HDMI, component video, analog, and optical audio ports and it is compatible with both PC and Mac.

The iStore now carries over 400 movies, 350 TV shows, 4 million songs, 100,000 podcasts, 5,000 music videos, and 20,000 audio books. Even with all that accessible media, at a price of $299.00 we think we will just wait for the early reviews before we place our orders.

T-EqualizerIf you thought the Pong Shirt was your type of garment, then you will surely appreciate the T-Equalizer. With an electroluminescent panel on its front, it reacts to music or any other loud noise. A mini-battery is hidden in the pocket of the t-shirt which lights up its LED. The T-Equalizer is so popular that Firebox is temporarily out of them, but if you want to shell out the $29.95 to have others see what they hear, they will be back in stock in next week.

Shark 2How many times have you heard a tune on the radio and wish you had snagged it for your iPod, but you missed the opening notes? Wish no more, for Griffin’s recently upgraded Shark 2 acts like a TiVo for your tuner. With a USB connection, the device saves the music through your computer that you can mix later and add to your iTune playlist.  You can also set up timed broadcasts with its software and it’s compatible for both PC and Mac.

Available with an antenna extension you also can receive a free edition of Snaptune one, which turns the Shark into a veritable do-all by scheduling, exporting, cataloging, and labeling artist and album information. At a MSRP of $49.99, we think it looks rather gnarly, dude.

Cybershot G1

Sony has just come out with their first WiFi camera, the Cybershot G1. Available next month, the point-and-shoot features a 3.5-inch LCD, 3x optical zoom, 2GB internal memory (expandable with Memory Stick Duo and PRO Duo cards,) slide show with music capabilities, and a slew of wireless sharing options with its 802.11b/g WiFi. It also has Sony’s usual SteadyShot and Anti-Blur features, and a price of around $600.00. Although it has taken Sony a while to catch up to Nikon and Canon, we understand they have been a bit busy lately in other areas of electronics and hope the G1 has been worth the wait.
