SendStation iPod Dock ConnectorSometimes it’s the simplest invention that yields the greatest convenience. What inspired this profundity? The SendStation Dock Extender, a small device that lets you plug your iPod into its docking station (or iPod speaker system), while still in its case or skin! Using a removable support and one of three interchangeable caps, you can dock your iPod, regardless of the case or skin it’s in, as long it has a dock connector opening. Works with 3G iPods on up, and even the upcoming iPhone if you’re planning ahead. The Dock Extender will be available soon, with price still to be determined.

We’re thinking that although Cal Spas has not yet released a price, if you have to ask what it costs, you probably cannot afford it.

Lensbaby Review

So obviously, we at Gear Live are fans of new camera technology and the selective focus Lensbabies SLR lenses certainly fit the bill. We were already familiar with their selective focus lenses for digital cameras in the form of their second generation (2G) Lensbaby, but they were kind enough to provide us with one of their brand new 3G Lenbabies for review.

The Lensbaby is a bellows style lens for modern SLR cameras. They feature low dispersion multi-coated optical glass lens mounted within a flexible rubber tube to allow the photographer to tilt the lens side to side as well as compress it closer to the camera. Much like cameras from 100 years ago or more focusing is accomplished by simply compressing the bellows to move the lens closer or further away from the camera. We have a full, in-depth review for you, after the break.

Tunebuckle Full Moon

We love gadgets where the coolness factor almost outweighs its functionality. A case in point is the Tunebuckle, a slate grey canvas belt…with a buckle that conveniently stores your iPod nano. The belt comes in one universal size, so you’ll have to cut the belt with a scissor to determine how long or short you want it to be (just don’t gain any weight after cutting it!). The Tunebuckle comes in three different styles, including the Full Metal Jacket, which covers the entire nano in case you have a dress code to adhere to. And don’t worry, when you take the belt off, your nano will still be encased. Available now for $59.99.

Cordgo on JeansWe saw this product at the recent DigitalLife technology expo in New York, and have been kicking ourselves since for not buying one. So we’re thrilled the Internet reunited us with the Cordgo Cord Control, a small container for wrapping anything with a long 3mm cord: your MP3 headphones, USB cables, cellphone headsets, etc. Just wrap said cord around Cordgo to the length you want, clip it to your jeans, backpack, etc. and your good to go. You can adjust the cord at any time, and store it within Cordgo when you’re done.  No more dangling excess cords, no more tangling, no more wrapping the cord around your iPod when you turn it off. Right now, it’s buy one get one free, so click on over and score a couple.

Hang and PlayChile’s Felipe Morales has found a nifty way to recycle all our old Atari joysticks. Although the Hang and Play is only a showpiece and not designed for retail, we can see this as spurring us on to our own inventions of outdated products. We could convert our original Nintendos into jewelry boxes, our Commodore computer into a foot stool, our obsolete floppy disks into coasters, and perhaps take our useless, empty inkjet cartridges and turn them into coin holders.

Monica CharlesWe’re not exactly sure of the purpose of this, but it looks cool. Monica Charles, during a Hallmark moment, decided to take Microsoft’s star field screensaver and sell its stars. Then she turns them into mini-billboards to be enjoyed by all. So far she has sold 22 out of an available 10,000 stars and if you hang at her site for a bit, you will see the likes of babies heads and unidentifiable planets fly by. We applaud Monica’s efforts in making cyberspace a work of art where you can have your own star and see it, too.

Shooting Boy BotWe have found a lot of robots that are simply incredible in their applications, but we just couldn’t resist one that looks so classy yet does so little. The Shooting Boy is a replica of an ancient Japanese luxury toy for feudal lords during the Edo period (1603 to 1867.) The bot actually pulls an arrow out of his fan, loads his bow, aims, and fires. You can find the robotic boy already assembled for $299.95 online at Jameco’s RobotStore, or build your own for $199.95 with included tools and instructions in English.

  Rollable Electronic Display

Polymer Vision has created what they claim is the planet’s first rollable electronic display. The winner of the Most Innovative Technology award at the 3GSM World Congress this week, the LCD display can be unrolled into a larger size than the mobile device itself. When the user has finished, the screen simply rolls back in. In addition, the gadget’s energy efficient charge lasts up to 10 times longer than most. The 5-inch display features 240 x 320 pixels, a contrast of 10:1, and an optimum refresh rate of 50 Hz. Contact Polymer Vision to see their demo and find about their future plans.

If you have not yet heard of Jefferson Han, you will be amazed at his new technology and how far he and his company, Perceptive Pixel, have come in the last six months. His touch display redefines the way commands are sent to a computer. Using movement and pressure, he conveys information to the brain beneath the display. Last month he reportedly sent his first screen to one of the military branches, and he is already offering consulting services. Future applications include interactive displays built into walls and shopping malls. For now, just marvel at the things to come.
