Introducing Gear Live Media’s Newest Site: FilmCrunch

Okay, we get it - Tom Cruise is crazy, Brangelina rocks, and Josh Hartnett is, like, to die for. However, we think it’s time to dig a little deeper into the industry of Hollywood - and that is why we bring you the newest site in the Gear Live Media Network, FilmCrunch. Headed up by Veronica Santiago and Neil Estep, these guys will definitely lay down the law when it comes to the movies and personalities you care about most. The best part? We do it in audio and video podcasts, along with supplemental text news.

Major Gear Live Discussion Forums Upgrade: Feature List

Alright, so in the continuing effort to make our discussion forums even better, we have just unleashed a bunch of new upgrades:
- Added an ignore member feature.
- Added the ability for users to report posts to moderators.
- Added ability to search by member group in Advanced Search Form
- Refined nomenclature for topics, replies, and posts (which is now consistently used as the sum of the topics and replies).
- Fixed a bug where posting a new reply would return you to the topic’s first page instead of the last page.
- Fixed a bug where an image attachment thumbnail would mistakenly increase the dimensions of the image.
- Fixed a bug where deleting a user’s topics when banning them would cause other users’ posts to the affected topics to be orphaned.
- Fixed a bug where merging two topics would result in the topic being set by the newer thread instead of the older one.
- Fixed a bug where attachments were not being connected properly on merge or split.
- Fixed a bug where a Topic’s edit date would change when any action was taken on the thread instead of only when the title or body was edited
- Fixed a bug that would allow posting and editing of posts in Read Only forums.
Those are the main ones, but there are a bunch more improvements “under the hood” so to speak. Give things a test and let us know if you find anything odd!

Testing Our New Server Setup - You Can Help!

Hey guys - so, in preparation for the holiday rush, with CES following afterwards, we have upgraded our server configuration. We are now hoping to stress-test the hell out of it to make sure all is well. This is where you guys come in.
We recently posted our video featuring the launch day of Nintendo Wii, which you can check out here. The video is linked to on Digg, and we are asking all of you to Digg it if you enjoy the video. If we make it to the front page of Digg, we can monitor what the huge traffic spike does to the servers, and can then adjust accordingly. Are you in?

I have no idea how we pulled this off, especially with stiff competition like Diggnation, Command-N, Systm, CrankyGeeks, and others - but we did it. Gear Live’s technology video podcast, The Bleeding Edge, won the award for Best Technology Video Blog. This is truly amazing, and an honor, and let’s us know that despite all the silliness and fun we are having doing what we do, there is a movement happening, and we are honored to be a part of it. Oh, and yes - we couldn’t make it, and we didn’t send a video acceptance speech because, quite frankly, we didn’t think we would win!
