Next time you head to Japan, you may just see evidence of Big Brother. NEC has been working on a plasma display screen that houses a camera. It can identify a person’s age and sex for specific ads. You hold up your cellphone to the 50-inch display and a QR code with URL will send you additional product information. Since we think this is a little too much information for us, we would rather do our shopping in the privacy of our own computer. Yeah, like that’s safe.

Microsoft Wants Xbox 360 Users to Create Games

Budding game creators, your time has come. Microsoft has decided to use Xbox 360 users to make new games. The company says that it will begin selling them later this year on its Xbox Live service for $2.50, $5.00, and $10.00 using MS points. Games are created under its XNA initiative. In order to become a future game star you will have to buy a $99.00 premium membership to the XNA Creators Club, but we figure that’s a small price to pay when those big bucks start rolling in.

Thanko has come up with a mouse for those with sweaty palms. The 3-button device has a 2-inch fan built into the base. The USBCOOLM is 6 x 12.6 x 4cm, has an on/off switch and can be used by those who are left and right handers. Compatible with Windows, you can get one for ¥1,980 (~$18.00.) While we are not sure we need a cooler mouse, at the very least we expect is that it might clean off the crumbs we sometimes spill.

Apple iLife 08 updates bring MobileMe support

Of you’re a MobileMe user who has been annoyed at the lack of integration of iLife 08 apps with the service, fret no more. Apple has just unleashed a few updates for the application suite, aimed at squashing a few bugs, improving stability, and integrating MobileMe where it make sense. You get an iLife Support update, as well as news versions of iPhoto, iWeb, and iMovie. Not too bad a deal, right? Now you can get back to editing those iWeb pages and MobileMe galleries. Just fire up Software Update to get the goods.

Beats by Dr. Dre unboxing gallery

We’ve been following the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones ever since we first got some hands-on (and ears-on) time with them back at CES. The Gear Live group that got to try them out included a few serious audiophiles, and we were thoroughly impressed by the sound that they were putting out, and this is when they were still in the development phase.
We just got a pair of the final production model, and early indications are that they are full of a bit more awesome than they were back then. We will hit you with a proper review soon, but for now, we wanted to get you a nice Beats unboxing gallery, chock full of unboxing shots. We’ve got over 30 images for you to chew on while you wait for these bad boys to launch on July 25th. If you want them, you will find them exclusively in Apple Stores and Best Buy, as well as over at BeatsByDre.com. They will run you $349.95, $50 less than they were announced for back at CES.

MSN and Hearst Team for Delish.com

If you are one of those that has experienced the joy of ordering your beef jerky on Amazon or can’t get enough of food news, MSN and Hearst have teamed together to create Delish.com. The site will launch this fall and be accessible through both the MSN home page and their Lifestyle Channel. Included will be content about food and entertaining with recipes, food articles, photo galleries, video, and interactive tools. MSN’s Jeff Dossett says that 60 million visitors already check out food-related sites. We wonder if we can get some of those nifty food USB flash drives through the site.

We remember showing you some USB flash drives that resembled pizza and burgers a while back. Apparently they were relished by many (pun intended,) so now there are more of them to love. The Fruit Flash Drives hold 4 GB of data, come in strawberry and watermelon, support Window 2000/XP/Vista or MAC OS, and are plug and play for $28.00 each.
