Microsoft Web-Based Office Suite

Microsoft is planning a web-based version of their Office suite, which will include full versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel and OneNote. As long as you have a Firefox, IE or Safari browser, you can access it from anywhere. The company has not given an official public release date, but you can probably expect it in late 2009. This should give iPhone and other handheld addicts another source of happiness since they have even more reason now to use them more than their computers.

You miss the 80s and you want people to know it. With the new Boombox from Flud, you can flaunt your love of big hair, break dancing and a more simple time, which required large music generating boxes to rest upon your shoulder. Understanding the need to carry more important things and in an age of portability, Flud has shrunken the Boombox to the wrist and given you a watch to go along with it. The watch, unfortunately does not feature a working boombox, but does use an LED display, giving a nice red vintage glow. The watch is available for $90 in silver or gun metal.

The “Batman: Confidential” series has not been great. The first story arc of Batman vs Lex Luthor was okay. The new Joker origin storyline by Michael Green started off good, but by the end it became kind of blah for me. I read the advance solicitations of the current storyline “Do You Understand These Rights?” a few months ago and thought it sounded interesting. So far, I’m really enjoying it.
The story began in last month’s issue with Batman bringing in the Joker for booking at the Gotham City Police Department for the first time ever. The first issue ended with the Joker stealing the home phone number of one of the detectives who were booking him. He used his one phone call to call the detective’s wife and pretend to be a doctor with the news that she was dying of a disease and that it would be slow and painful death; he said it would be best if she ended her life. One of the cruelest things the Joker has ever done in comics. This issue is part two and is even better than the previous one. With an ending you won’t believe. It involves the Joker and a peanut.

Review of Cartoon Network’s Batman: The Brave and the Bold

I watched the premiere episode of the newest Batman television series with my four-year old son, James - he loved it. However, he also likes Caillou and The Backyardigans. If you are a parent with a young child, you know what I’m talking about.
The latest Batman cartoon takes its name and format from the classic original run of the “Brave and the Bold” comic series that featured Batman teaming up with a different super-hero from the DC Universe each month. The premiere episode was entertaining. It’s a decent story that saw Batman teaming up with Jamie Reyes the Blue Beetle. It’s cool that DC and its parent company, Warner Brothers, are sticking with Jamie and introducing him to an audience outside of the comic book world. I wasn’t crazy about the death of the Ted Kord Blue Beetle, especially with the new Blue Beetle’s outfit. I hated the outfit when I first saw it, but it’s grown on me. I also like the character of Jaime himself in the various appearances he’s made in comics over the past two years. That said, what about tonight’s episode?

Ha-freaking-doken: Street Fighter IV launches February 17th

We hope you guys are as ready as we are for this one, as Capcom has finally announced the release date for Street Fighter IV. You’ll be able to pick up your copy for the Xbox 360 or Playstation 3 on February 17th here in North America, and February 20th if you are in Europe. We’ve been waiting for this game for the better part of a decade, so you can bet we’re stoked.
We also find it mildly amusing that in the announcement, Capcom urges people to pick up Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, which is supposed to be available sometime this month, and yet, has no definitive release date to speak of.

Video: Installing the New Xbox Experience

So, we hit you with a 20-minute video tour of the New Xbox Experience, but we’ve received a bunch of feedback where you guys were asking about the installation process of the new dashboard. Thing is, since we had already updated our two Xbox 360 units, we couldn’t go back and show how installation worked, since you can’t go back to the old interface once you’ve upgraded. Luckily, Major Nelson just put up a video showing how installation of the NXE works. Check it out above - as you’ll see, it’s all painless. November 19th is just five days away.
Amazon to Change Packaging

Let’s file this one under, “It’s about time.” Amazon is now working with retailers to help eliminate those pre-boxes and plastic sealing that is almost impossible to get open without way too much work. Instead, items will be packed in plain brown cardboard boxes and envelopes. Companies to step up to the plate first are Microsoft, Fisher-Price, Mattel, and Transcend. We figure that will not only make Amazon greener, but should certainly keep shipping costs lower. Let’s hope that they pass some of the savings on to us.
