The Avengers Overseas: Breaking Box Office Records

So... this is happening: The Avengers is killing it at the overseas box office.
Those lucky overseasers got it first and they're filling up the Marvel treasure chest with a whopping $185 million so far.
Rolling Stone reports that the movie "has it all. And then some."

Viz, the San Francisco-based manga and anime company has some job openings that look interesting.
They’re looking for an Associate Producer (New Media), a Controller, and a Staff Accountant.
Details are at the link. In general, Viz has a pretty good employee package that includes: Partially subsidized Health, Dental, and Vision insurance; 401(k) savings plan – including employer matching; Gap medical insurance; and a Wellness program, including fitness membership discounts and reimbursement (which is perfect for people who get paid to read comics all day.

Man discovers international crime ring by using GPS

Now if you think that high-end crime involving city ports, boats, crime circles, black markets, and Ferraris are things you only see on the big screen, think again.
The owner of a high-end rental car company based on Los Angeles noticed that his Ferrari 458 Italia was sitting still for a few days. Growing suspicious, we got the police involved and the last known location of the car, tracked via GPS.
The police finally caught up with the car in Hong Kong, and found that the Ferrari wasn’t alone in transit. A bunch of high priced vehicles were all heading over to the Asian black market where they can fetch a price twice the value of the car. This still comes out cheaper, since the buyer avoid taxes and fees. More details in the video above as CBS reports on the story.

Bugatti releases teaser of four-doored Galibier concept

When you enlist a French supercar manufacturer to create a teaser video for a car, you end up with a piece that's as long as a theatrical trailer. Bugattis have never been subtle, so why should their teaser be anything less than they are?
Many are familiar with the Bugatti Veyron, but Bugatti decided it too needed to venture back into the four-door car market. Heck, if Lamborghini and Porsche are doing it, why shouldn’t they? So with all this in mind, Bugatti has released a teaser for the Bugatti Galibier four-door concept. Checkout the Galibier above and what Bugatti’s about after the jump!

God of War: Ascension Multiplayer details

The God of War series is a long-running franchise with tons of fans, most of whom have assumed that the series was over with God of War III killing off the main character, Kratos. But then there is God of War: Ascension, a game only recently announced by Sony.
The game continues to follow the story of Kratos, a rage driven war machine bent on killing the gods. God of War: Ascension is said to take place before the first game, serving as a prequel to the series. Sony held a conference showing off something never before seen in the God of War series--multiplayer. In this interview after the conference we learn that a player can customize their character and align themselves with a god to earn their favor. It will be interesting to see what else God of War: Ascension has for us, E3 is almost here.

Translogic celebrates its 100th episode (Video)

Normally Translogic is out educating use on alternative fuel powered vehicles. We’ve seen everything from poop-powered cars to a flying jet-man. Though the latter isn’t green, it’s definitely an alternative to four-wheeled commuting.
This episode of Translogic marks its 100th installment. How do you celebrate a 100th installment of a show? Take it to the Disney World Speedway, of course.
Beyond the normal, green-powered flare, Translogic decided to celebrate their 100th episode by driving Lamborghinis and Ferraris, to which we have no complaint. With that said, enjoy the clip!
Diamond Comic Distributors is the biggest - and, really, the only - comic book distributor that serves the direct market. And they’re hiring.
Currently, they have 5 positions open, and it’s a wide range of stuff: Consumer Marketing Manager, Direct Marketing Representative (at Alliance Game Distributors), Order Processing Data Manager, Retail Sales Associate (at Geppi’s Entertainment Museum), and a Tech Support/POS Specialist.
As you can see, the jobs are all over the Diamond empire. I like the marketing manager one myself, but I’m not moving back to the East Coast, so that one’s all yours.
Qualifications, responsibilities and detailed job descriptions are at the link. Jobs like this go pretty quickly because they don’t depend on tons of comic book knowledge, so if you’re are interested and qualified, go forth.

Weekend Reading: Avengers, Alan Moore, Before Watchmen, and Don McGregor

I once met Alan Moore, had dinner with him in fact. A dinner that included Stephen Bissette and John Totleben.
I must stress that they did not have dinner with me at my invitation - I was at the table as a guest of Gary Groth and Kim Thompson from Fantagraphics. Also in attendance was Dave Olbrich. The creative trio - currently on DC’s Swamp Thing - was on their way to NY and had stopped in at the Fantagraphics offices to meet with Gary and Kim and head for Chinese food. And I got to tag along.
I spent a couple of hours listening to Moore and his companions regale the group with story after story. At no point did I ever think of Alan Moore as crazy. In fact, I thought he was one of the smartest guys I’d ever met. He was also not like anyone I’d met either before or since. He was different, alright. But crazy? No. Weird? Hardly.

If you’ve been wondering what Paul Levitz has been doing since he left his office at DC Comics, I can tell you one of those things: teaching. He’s an Adjunct Professor of Publishing at Pace University.
According to Pace, “during the Fall 2012 semester, Prof. Levitz will be teaching PUB 615, Comics & Graphic Novels. During the Spring 2013 semester he will be teaching a new course, PUB 619, The Future of Publishing: Transmedia, and he hopes to see many of the Pace M.S. in Publishing students in one or both of these classes.”
