Why there is no 16GB Microsoft Surface option
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Handhelds, Microsoft, Storage,

When Microsoft announced Surface pre-orders, many consumers were puzzled by the lack of a 16GB option for the tablet. We got a lot of emails from readers wondering what was up, and it looks like we've got our answer. The Surface starts at 32GB of storage, and as it turns out, the user is left with 20GB of usable storage space on that model. That means that Windows RT and the pre-installed Office RT apps use up 12GB of space. In other words, if there were a 16GB model, the user would be left with just 4GB of space for their own documents, apps, and anything else. That would just make for a bad user experience, so Microsoft decided to start with 32GB of storage so that Surface users would still have a substantial amount of free space to use as they see fit. By comparison, a 32GB iPad leaves the user with about 31GB of free space, since iOS and built-in apps take up just 1GB of storage.

Apple working on iOS 6.0.1 bug fix update
Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Handhelds, Rumors, Software,

BGR reported this morning that their sources have indicated that Apple is internally testing iOS 6.0.1 with numerous carriers, and this one looks to be focused on fixing a few nagging issues. There have been complaints of the camera flash not firing when expected, bad Wi-Fi connections, and horizontal lines appearing on the display, and iOS 6.0.1 should address these concerns, and more. In addition, there is an Exchange Invite bug that deletes the entire calendar event if any invited party declines. Furthermore, a Passbook update will prevent all the details from your cards from being accessed from the lock screen without your PIN code.
It's also reported that Apple is working on iOS 6.1, which should bring with it a new feature or two, within the confines of its Cupertino labs, but that isn't expected until after the 2012 holiday season. BGR has been somewhat hit or miss with Apple predictions as of late, so this can all be taken with a grain of salt. That said, it would be hard to imagine that Apple didn't have both iOS 6.0.1 and iOS 6.1 in the pipeline.

Control your light bulbs with motion and smartphones with GreenWave LED lights
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Smart Home, Wireless / WiFi,

GreenWave Reality is aiming to bring us the lightbulbs of the future with its new Connected Lighting Solution line-up of Wi-Fi-aware LED bulbs. These bulbs use a fraction of the power of the light bulbs that you're used to, and can be controlled from your smartphone or tablet immediately after being put into their sockets. You can also group a set of bulbs together to control them all with one command. You can even set up timed lighting on the bulbs individually, or as a group, for a nice set-it-and-forget-it configuration. If all that is too much for you, another great feature is that the setup is even motion sensitive, so you can have lights turn on in any room that someone enters. All in all, it's pretty neat. We're looking to get our review units in soon to give you a deeper look at GreenWave's lighting solution.

What’s the biggest comic book coming out this year? Is it Before Watchmen? AvsX? My Little Pony? Nope, the most exciting news out of comics this year is that The Situation, the gym-tan-laundry rehabbing co-star of Jersey Shore, is putting out his own comic book, called, simply, The Situation.
Not many details have been released about it yet, other than that fell behind schedule. After debuting his comic in September on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Situation will show it off at Wizard World Austin on October 27.
Our imbedded industry spies have revealed to Comix 411 that a number of new characters will be making their first appearance in the first issue. How many? At least 10 (coindence... or not?) Here, then, are the Top 10 new characters featured in The Situation’s upcoming comic:

Remember Lisa Loeb, the singer with the glasses who had a big, big hit song with "Stay" that popped up in the movie Reality Bites?
She's carved out quite an interesting career for herself with more music, a couple of children's CD's, voiceover work, some TV work and even her own brand of glasses.
But now she has a new CD coming out and for giddy comic book fans, the cover art is by Tess Fowler.
Tess posted it on her Facebook page for all to see. The album is called No Fairy Tale and you can see why she (who's worked on the indy comics Charmed, Grimm Fairy Tale and Wonderland) is the perfect artist for it.
