Mission Impossible 3Just recently, Paramount Pictures unleashed the brand new Mission Impossible III trailer onto the Xbox Live Marketplace. The trailer is naturally available in 720p as well as 480p, just as the recently released X-Men 3 teaser trailer was. Both sequels hit theaters next May. It’s funny, the first next-gen gaming console has been released, and we’re using it substantially to download movie trailers, videogame demos, and cheap arcade games. We’re all for complete online integration though, so we’re loving it!

In a recent release, marketing research firm Parks Associate announced that online game revenues will triple between now and 2009. Currently, online game service revenues stand at $1.1 billion. They’re expected to jump up to $3.5 billion in 2009. With the significant leap, we can only expect to see more and more games online. Furthermore, it looks like Microsoft’s on to something with the Xbox Live Arcade and other media content available online. Based upon five year console cycles, the PS3, Xbox 360, and Revolution will be the consoles on the market, so if you’re looking to ride the wave of online gaming into the future, “Jump In” now -or, once you’re able to at least.

ActivisionIn sync with the lower game sales of November, Activision has lowered its sales expectations for the all-important current quarter. Despite strong COD2 sales, the company reports lacking sales. Unfortunately for the company, both True Crime and GUN came up very short in retail.

While such a slump can only be expected during transitionary months, as we go from current-gen to next-gen, the slide still comes as a surprise to many in the industry. Are the games being made just not good enough? Game publishers probably will end up current-gen game prices in the near future to help boost sales. Just because you’re selling more doesn’t mean you’re making more. Meanwhile, will next-gen game prices float upwards? COD2 is priced at $60 and it’s the number one selling 360 game, so publishers will only take these results as an indication to lower current-gen game prices but raise the ones of next-gen games. So who gets hurt most from all this? The hardcore gamers of course…

Splinter Cell Interview

On Wednesday, IGN posted a detailed interview with Daniel Roy, the associate producer of the Xbox 360 version of the new Splinter Cell title. The interview is definitely worth checking out if you have any interest in the game. Heck, the interview’s worth checking out if you’re interested at all in next-gen videogames. It’s looking like Double Agent is going to represent a big leap for the Splinter Cell series. Of course, we’d only expect a leap seeing as the series is moving into the next generation.

Want proof of how much more advanced the new game is going to be?

IGN: Are you planning any major changes to the A.I. concerning stealth? There was a significant difference between Pandora Tomorrow and Chaos Theory.

Daniel Roy: One of the major overhauls this time around is the enemy AI in a friendly environment, i.e., the terrorist HQ. Terrorists in the HQ don’t automatically pull out a gun and shoot you, now… They interact with Sam in a more complex way. Some of them will even join him on missions in cooperative mode, so that Sam can benefit from a partner on certain missions.

Oh and yeah, the game has the graphics thing going for it as well.

Escapa!

Posted by Brandon Gribin Categories: Internet, Strategy,

Take control of the red square in Escapa without letting it touch any of the sides or other pieces. While it’s got nothing on the Xbox Live Arcade games, it’s still a fun diversion. My current high is 18.667 but that was just after a few attemps. Go ahead and top it!

During a section of Wednesday night’s The Daily Show, cast-member Demetri takes a look at historic trends and this year’s hot holiday item, the Xbox 360. At any rate, the clip’s very entertaining but I won’t spoil any of it if you haven’t already seen it. Read on for the video.

So, our sites have been lacking of updates today thanks to Comcast and their wonderful outage that has had me sitting without Internet, Vonage, or cable television for the past six hours. Of course, they don’t know why the outage occurred, but my Internet just came back on, and has been fluctuating off and on. Even better, now I have to go out to meet up with Major Nelson over at Chris and Ponzi’s place. Oh well, we should have some stuff up at some point this evening - if Comcast gets their act together.

Splinter Cell 4

The upcoming Splinter Cell title for next-gen consoles is looking pretty slick, don’t you think? The original Splinter Cell, released a few years ago, was arguably one of the best looking Xbox games. In fact, many gamers claim the series has the best graphics of any current-gen games.

It’s only natural that as we enter the next-gen, gamers everywhere are expecting the new Splinter Cell title, Double Agent, to be jaw-droppingly gorgeous when it’s released. As it currently stands, Double Agent is seen as one of the more visually appealing upcoming next-gen games, right beside Metal Gear Solid 4. Isn’t it interesting that the two games aren’t only extremely good looking, but are also stealth games? Sure, the Metal Gear Solid series may have a little more action while the Splinter Cell games have a bit more sneaking, but they sure are pretty similar. We have more images after the jump.
