In this Bleeding Edge Byte, David Geller of WhatCounts.com invites us to his office to show off his new MacBook Pro. While playing around with the machine, we decided to put it head-to-head against his Dual G5 PowerMac to see which computer would come out on top. We set up both Macs to compile Java, and filmed the results. This is the full version of the edited clip that was a part of Bleeding Edge Episode 7.

Gateway NX100XFor those of us on a budget, Gateway has released a new ultra portable notebook.  The NX100X features a 12.1-inch widescreen display with a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, and a 1.2GHz Core Solo processor.  The unit comes in at under an inch thick, and sports a full sized keyboard.  We are a bit disappointed to hear that the unit does not come with a DVD player or a CD/RW drive, the unit arrives with an external CD-ROM drive.  Also, the NX100X only ships with a 3-cell battery that powers the unit for a measly 3 hours.  You can spring for the more expensive battery or the external DVD/CDRW, but in today’s computing world these things are viewed as necessities, especially on an ultra portable. The Gateway NX100X is available at $1624.00 - check out the full review over at Laptop Mag.

OHSO

When a non-electric toothbrush calls for a product review, you know something about it has to be special, right? Well, just trust us. We have taken the OHSO Marko travel toothbrush and put it through the paces to show what a little ingenious, outside-the-box thinking can add to a practice that we didn’t expect to see much innovation come in to. If you ever have to go somewhere where you think you might need your toothbrush, we tell you why the OHSO is the only solution you will ever need to that problem.

MacBook Pro

The guys over at MacWorld have received a few MacBook Pros (they started shipping about a week ago) and are reporting back with some of their observations. Looks like the newest Apple notebook is almost on par with the Dual Core iMac in terms of speed in some instances. They compare different processing scenarios of the MacBook Pro against the new iMac Core Duo and the older PowerBook G4.  Oh, and they like the MagSafe power connection. Head on over for more details.

DescriptionAltec Lansing is known for giving audiophiles the quality in detail that they seek.  The AHP712i headphones were designed with those of us that love ear-cupped style headphones and refuse to migrate to the possibly more comfortable and stylish earbuds.  Considering you can get a semi-decent pair of headphones for about $30 these days, we decided to put these through a rigorous amount of testing to determine whether or not they are truly worth $150.  Check out the review after the jump.
