The Killers Embarrassed by Greatest Hits Album

The Killers don't feel ready to put out a greatest hits album.
The "Mr. Brightside" rockers are about to release their Direct Hits compilation but feel they should have waited another decade to amass a bigger catalogue of hits.
"We'd wait another 10 years if it was up to us, but it's a contractual thing. We can fill a CD so it makes good business sense at this time of year. However, it's not like we're so pleased with ourselves we want to put it out. It feels like a douchie move," drummer Ronnie Vannucci said.
The "Human" hitmakers insist they are just taking a break from music and have no plans to end their career just yet. "I'm looking forward to coming back when we're ready. It's a very strange existence, a huge juggling act to navigate this rock 'n' roll life. The perception of us is what it is - people know what's up. Bands don't usually make it this long - if you get past 10 years, you're bionic. It's not like everything we touch turns to f**king gold," Ronnie added.

The Killers’ Shaky Start to the New Album

The Killers spent a week "eyeballing each other" at the start of recording Battle Born.
The "Mr Brightside" band were on hiatus until October 2011 when they started sessions for their new album, and admit it took a little time for them to settle in to working together again. Singer Brandon Flowers said they had "spent about a week eyeballing each other in a room," before coming up with new single, "Runaways," which gave them confidence.
"That and 'Miss Atomic Bomb' were the backbone of this record. They made me feel like I was on the right track," Brandon added.
Brandon and drummer Ronnie Vannucci both released solo albums after the band went on hiatus in 2010, but respected the fact the other members, guitarist Dave Keuning and bassist Mark Stoermer, needed some time off. "We are a machine of four parts, and when some of those parts wear out, you need to give it time. We all have different temperaments for how much you can manage. You need respect. Otherwise you're a band for maybe three years and then explode," Ronnie added.

The Killers’ Cowboy Christmas Track
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Release Dates, Upcoming Releases, Alternative, Rock,
The Killers' new Christmas song is inspired by "cowboy poetry." The Las Vegas rockers released their fifth festive track today and say that "The Cowboy's Christmas Ball" has a Western theme after frontman Brandon Flowers sought ideas from his reading material.
"Brandon had a book of cowboy poetry and we took one of those and put music to it. It's got this 1800s parlance, Western style. It's pretty upbeat and very down-home sounding - and overall pretty cool," said drummer Ronnie Vannucci.
As well as their Christmas single, The Killers are also recording the follow-up to 2008's album Day and Age, and Ronnie is pleased with the work they have done so far: "It's going really well. We've got a lot of stuff to choose from so now it's just getting it right - we're taking our time and making sure we're doing a good job."
Proceeds from "The Cowboy's Christmas Ball" will be donated to Project Red, the charity founded by U2's Bono, which aims to raise awareness and funds to help eradicate AIDS in Africa.
