Marina and the Diamonds Not Worried About Being Pop

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Alternative, Pop, New Releases,

Marina and the DiamondsMarina and the Diamonds felt some fans "wouldn't allow" her to be a pop artist on Electra Heart.

The singer's second album took a more chart-friendly direction away from her indie roots, and while she was initially unsure, she is now happy some people would criticize her for it.

"I think that I wasn't allowed to change and that deep down I wanted to write a pop album and to be a popstar. For some reason, I felt like people wouldn't allow me to do that, which is stupid because I love the album. So I should have just never said anything and accepted that some people would have said 'she's not credible anymore' and that some people would start to be a fan of me, because that's what always happens when you change your music."

Marina - real name Marina Diamandis - worked with pop producer Dr. Luke on the album, and says he changed the entire way some of the songs were presented:

Katy Perry Set to Lose Producer

Katy Perry and producer Dr. LukeKaty Perry is set to stop working with producer Dr. Luke. The pop star and the studio wizard worked together on her hit album Teenage Dream - which contained several chart-topping hits, including "California Gurls," "E.T." and "Last Friday Night" - but the relationship must end after he signed a new deal with Sony Music.

The producer - real name Lukasz Gottwald - has agreed to join the company in 2012 and run his own record label under the Sony umbrella. The new venture will be called Kemosabe Records and, as part of the contract, Dr. Luke can only work with Sony artists, which rules out future collaborations with Katy because she is on EMI.

The 27-year-old singer - who is married to Russell Brand - is preparing to release the "The One That Got Away," which will be the sixth single from Teenage Dream. Dr. Luke has also worked with a number of other chart-topping artists, including Ke$ha, Britney Spears, Jessie J and most recently with Rihanna on her new album Talk That Talk.

Britney Spears

We are now just two days away from welcoming a new year ... and only eight days away from hearing a new Britney Spears track.

The singer, who has been in the studio for a few months now, will debut a single produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke on January 7.

Sharon Dastur, program director for New York's Z100, called the hook for "Hold It Against Me" just "amazing."

"And the beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists — this infectious bass beat beneath the song," Dastur added.

Sounds like a great way to start 2011 to me!
