Quote of the Day: James Cameron on ‘Ridiculous’ Battleship Movie
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Action, Adaptation, Drama, Science Fiction, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,

“We have a story crisis. Now they want to make the Battleship game into a film. This is pure desperation. ... Everyone in Hollywood knows how important it is that a film is a brand before it hit theaters. If a brand has been around, Harry Potter for example, or Spider-Man, you are light years ahead. And there lies the problem. Because unfortunately these franchises are become more ridiculous. Battleship. This degrades the cinema.”
--Director James Cameron on the upcoming Hasbro game-turned-movie starring Alexander Skarsgard, model Brooklyn Decker and singer Rihanna.

Ridley Scott to Direct Film Version of Monopoly
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Adaptation, Upcoming Releases,
If you’ve found yourself needing to enjoy Monopoly in one more possible form, you’re in luck. An adaptation of the classic game is now being prepared for the big screen, nearly 25 years after the same was done for Clue. (Yes, it was that long ago.)
And while some may choose to write this project off completely - I mean, the game only has like one character - there could be reason to take note. A few high-profile names have already been attached to the Hasbro-Universal collaboration. Ridley Scott, the same man behind Gladiator and American Gangster, will be co-producing and directing the film. (He reportedly would like to give the film a “futuristic sheen” like he did with 1982’s Blade Runner.) Meanwhile, Pamela Pettler, the woman who penned Corpse Bride and Monster House, is in charge of the script.
Other games that could eventually end up in theaters include Ouija Board and Battleship.

Cast Set for ‘G.I. Joe’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adaptation, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Last year, Neil Estep and I addressed the upcoming G.I. Joe movie on an episode of FilmCrunch. Months later, we now know the names beefing up for this live-action adaptation.
It’s been announced that Dennis Quaid will be assuming the role of General Hawk while Channing Tatum (Step Up) will be putting on Duke Hauser’s fatigues. These two actors will join an already long list of players. Others confirmed for the futuristic war movie include Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Sienna Miller (Factory Girl), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Lookout), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Said Taghmaoui (The Kite Runner) and Rachel Nichols (Alias).
The Paramount feature - based on the childhood action figure - is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 7, 2009. The movie will be co-produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the same man behind the other Hasbro-related film, Transformers.
