Up Blu-ray review
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Disney, Adventure, Animation, Family, DVD Reviews,
This week, Pixar released their latest film, Up, on DVD and Blu-ray, and we’ve been going through all the content on the Blu-ray release over the past couple of weeks. We know that the movie did extremely well at the box office, and reviews for the actual movie were great - but how does the home release of Up hold, er, up? Hit that read link, and we’ll let you know our thoughts on one of the biggest home releases of the holiday season.
The Movie
As is typical with our Blu-ray and DVD reviews, we won’t actually be reviewing the movie itself in full, but we will say this: Up is another Pixar release that combines family fun and entertainment with some highly emotional storytelling, with a perfect balance. The movie easily beats a lot of the cruft that you see other Hollywood studios pumping out on a regular basis. You’ve got lovable characters in Carl Fredrickson, Russell, and Dug, with dialogue that’s funny for kids, with some lines specifically aimed at adults. The movie even features miscarriage and death, but with subtlety, so the kids don’t get confused. It’s definitely worth seeing.

Johnny Depp to Get $35 Million for Pirates 4
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Disney, Action, Adventure, Family, Period, Sequels, Comedy, Thrillers, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,

While studio execs at Disney may forge ahead without Johnny Depp for the fifth and sixth Pirates of the Caribbean films, they’ll definitely be paying a hefty amount to have him in the latest sequel of the franchise.
Reportedly commanding a minimum of $35 million, Depp would shoot to the top of the highest-paid actors list, placing him above the likes of Tom Cruise, Tom Hanks, and Mel Gibson, who ask for around $30 million (Depp received $25 million for the last Pirates sequel).
Yes, the Pirates of the Caribbean movies have dominated at the box office; however, higher-ups usually aren’t known to shell out $35 million paychecks, so what gives?

When a movie combines The Mummy, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, it’s bound to be a hit. And in this case, Prince of Persia: Sands of Time also has a beefed up Jake Gyllenhaal and a Bond girl (Gemma Arteron) to boot.
So will this trailer get you in the doors? Doesn’t matter—I’m sure Disney’s already got a new theme park ride in the works.
Prince of Persia opens on May 28.

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition Blu-ray review
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Disney, Animation, Classics, Family, DVD Reviews,
Not many people realize this, but Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is Disney‘s very first full-length animated motion picture. Some would say it is the most prized possession inside the Disney Vault, since one could argue that this movie not only pushed the still-young Disney studio well on its way to being the global powerhouse that it is today, but it also expanded and legitimized the art of animation. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is the first movie to be released as part of the Disney Platinum Series, which has been around for a while now. However, when it came time to get the Blu-ray treatment, Sleeping Beauty and Pinocchio were both released before Snow White, as Disney wanted to get this one just right. The result? The Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Diamond Edition Blu-ray set.
Is it worthy of the title? Journey with us as we dig deep into the Snow White Diamond Edition and find out.

If your film is still charting in fifth place, why pull the plug now?
Although it was originally slated for a two-week stint, the Toy Story/Toy Story 2 double feature has been given a longer stay. The popular 3D reissuing will now have an indefinite run. (It will most likely be pulled before A Christmas Carol opens on November 6.)
Since being re-released on October 2, the Pixar classics have combined forces for approximately $22.8 million in ticket sales.
Those still unable to relive the experience before it leaves theaters can get their sneak peek of Toy Story 3 above.

Pirates Franchise Sails On…Without Depp?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Disney, Action, Adventure, Family, Sequels, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Corporate Shakeups, Rumors, Upcoming Releases, Videos,
Which is bigger: Depp or Disney?
Dick Cook, former chairman of the uber-company and friend to actor Johnny Depp, recently left the company and left the fate of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise up in the air. Depp stated that he may discontinue his piracy if Cook is no longer at the helm of the ship.
But here’s the really shocking part: Disney plans to forge ahead without him. Depp is signed up to do On Stranger Tides, the fourth installment in the franchise, but two more movies are planned after this.
So…is there any way the movies could possibly work without Captain Jack Sparrow? Disney’s pretty big…but it’s doubtful the company has the chops to make Pirates work without Depp in the lead.

Johnny Depp Out of Pirates?
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Disney, Action, Adventure, Family, Period, Sequels, Comedy, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Celebrity Controversy, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
To a whole lot of women’s dismay, Johnny Depp may not appear in the next Pirates of the Caribbean film.
The veteran actor said that following the departure of Disney chief executive Dick Cook last Friday, he will have to wait to see the script for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides before he will commit to the movie.
Referring to the film he said, “There’s a fissure, a crack in my enthusiasm at the moment.”
Johnny, who has played the lead role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the previous three installments of the pirate adventure trilogy, said that he was “shocked and very sad” about the news when Dick phoned to tell him he was leaving.
“He is the utmost gentleman, so he made the call himself. He didn’t give me a reason. I didn’t see this coming. There was no reason to see this coming. He’s instantly trustworthy. And you generally don’t meet people at the studios you trust. He’s a rare beast.”
Johnny also said Dick was the person who convinced him to sign on for Pirates of the Caribbean in the first place.
Johnny Depp Surprises D23 Audience
Johnny Depp, in his Pirates of the Caribbean mien, rode a pirate ship into the Disney D23 Expo yesterday. As it turns out, Jack Sparrow wasn’t just there to delight crowds: he had an announcement to make.
It was in this fashion that Disney chose to unveil the name for the newest Pirates installment. The fourth in the franchise will be named Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and sails to theaters in the summer of 2011.

Timothy Dalton: From 007 to Toy Story 3
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Disney, Animation, Family, Sequels, Comedy, Casting, Celeb News, Upcoming Releases,
Timothy Dalton is to star in Toy Story 3.
The 63-year-old actor - who played British spy James Bond in Licence to Kill and The Living Daylights - will voice melodramatic hedgehog Mr. Pricklepants in the Disney/Pixar sequel. If he is allowed to keep his Welsh accent, the actor will be the first Briton to feature in the popular animated franchise.
Disney president John Lasseter revealed Dalton’s casting yesterday in addition to part of film’s plot. In excerpts shown, the toys - including Tom Hanks’ Woody, Tim Allen’s Buzz and Kelsey Grammer’s Stinky Pete the Prospector - were sent to a daycare center when their owner Andy grows up and moves to college. After days of terrible abuse at the hands of toddlers, the toys stage a dramatic break-out before going on the hunt for a new home.
Cars star Michael Keaton will also voice a new character in the film - Barbie’s boyfriend Ken.
Toy Story 3 will be released on June 18, 2010.
