Cast Additions for Wolverine

UPDATE: Two more names have since been added to the bottom of the list.
Back in October, we reported that a spinoff of the X-Men series was in the works. The prequel, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, would explore the beginnings of Hugh Jackman’s storyline 17 years before the first movie took place.
Now four months later, we are getting a picture of how the rest of the cast is filling out. It was originally rumored that Liev Schreiber would be playing a younger version of William Stryker (the role Brian Cox filled in X2). That role actually belongs to Danny Huston (30 Days of Night). But Schreiber will still have a presence in the film; he is now set to star as Victor Creed (a.k.a Sabretooth).
Here’s a list of the actors currently joining slated to join Jackman:
- Lynn Collins (The Number 23): Kayla Silverfox
- Danny Huston (The Kingdom): William Stryker
- Taylor Kitsch (Friday Night Lights) Gambit
- Ryan Reynolds (Definitely, Maybe): Deadpool
- Liev Schrieber (The Painted Veil) : Victor Creed/Sabretooth
- will.i.am (Black Eyed Peas singer): Wraith
- Dominic Monaghan (Lost): Barnell
- Daniel Henney (My Name Is Kim Sam-soon): Agent Zero
The film is still scheduled for a May 1, 2009 release.

Cast Set for ‘G.I. Joe’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Paramount, Action, Adaptation, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Last year, Neil Estep and I addressed the upcoming G.I. Joe movie on an episode of FilmCrunch. Months later, we now know the names beefing up for this live-action adaptation.
It’s been announced that Dennis Quaid will be assuming the role of General Hawk while Channing Tatum (Step Up) will be putting on Duke Hauser’s fatigues. These two actors will join an already long list of players. Others confirmed for the futuristic war movie include Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Sienna Miller (Factory Girl), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (The Lookout), Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Lost), Said Taghmaoui (The Kite Runner) and Rachel Nichols (Alias).
The Paramount feature - based on the childhood action figure - is scheduled to hit theaters on Aug. 7, 2009. The movie will be co-produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the same man behind the other Hasbro-related film, Transformers.

Will Christian Bale and Johnny Depp Face Off?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Adaptation, Drama, Period, Thrillers, Casting, Upcoming Releases,

Michael Mann, the director credited with bringing one of the most buzzed about matchups to the big screen, may be set to do it again. Thirteen years after Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro squared off (briefly) in 1995’s Heat, another electrifying pair is in talks to do the same. With any luck, you may soon be seeing Christian Bale with Johnny Depp at a theater near you.
Bale, 33, and Depp, 44 - arguably two of the most respected and exciting actors working today - have been named as possibles for Public Enemies, the adaptation of a Brian Burrough’s book. The film would pit Depp, as notorious bank robber John Dillinger, against Melvin Purvis (Bale). Purvis was the FBI agent who eventually brought the notorious bank robber down in 1934.
If all goes as planned, the two actors will begin production with Mann later this winter.

Brad Pitt, Edward Norton Reunion A Bust
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Universal, Adaptation, Drama, Political, Casting, Filmmaking, Upcoming Releases,
It was probably one of the most buzzed about reunions since Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were brought back together again. Now it looks like we might have to wait another 8 years to see it happen.
Back in September, it was announced that Brad Pitt and Edward Norton would join forces for the political drama, State of Play. The two, last seen together in 1999’s Fight Club, were next set to spar in the political arena. Pitt was cast as former campaign manager-turned-reporter while Edward was scheduled to play a congressman whose research assistant is murdered. I use the word ‘was’ because Play’s two core stars have since dropped out.
Unhappy with the final script, Pitt eventually backed out of the film. Although Russell Crowe had agreed to step in, his late arrival pushed the starting date from November to January. This change unfortunately posed a scheduling conflict for Norton, who was then forced to exit as well. It is now hoped that Ben Affleck will slide in his place. (I for some reason doubt the Crowe/Affleck chemistry could even come close to the original pairing’s.)
Assuming no other last minute changes are made, the movie - an adaptation of a British mini-series - will also feature Rachel McAdams, Helen Mirren, Robin Wright Penn and Jason Bateman.

Britney Spears to Play the Virgin Mary?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Religious, Satire, Comedy, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
US Magazine is reporting that Britney Spears may be taking on a very holy role in the near future. It seems a French producer has deemed the train wreck
pop star a perfect fit for his satirical take on the classic nativity story. In this modern-day version, Britney would play an unwed pregnant girl, named Mary, who gives birth on Christmas Eve in Bethlehem, Maryland.
Although the film is hers for the taking, Spears is still supposedly mulling over the offer. A decision on the role is expected to be made within the next few days. Production on Sweet Baby Jesus is scheduled to begin in March.

‘X-Files’ Casting Decisions
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: 20th Century Fox, Science Fiction, Sequels, Casting, Upcoming Releases,
Xzibit, no stranger to the filming studio thanks to MTV, has joined the cast of the upcoming X-Files movie. Amanda Peet and Billy Connolly are already signed on for supporting roles in the flick.
One source says the rapper and the movie star (Xzibit and Peet) will play FBI agents working with Scully and Mulder, the stars of the show and the film. The plot is being kept very hush-hush, and FOX is releasing very little information on which roles the actors will play. Xzibit has played roles in films before and was set to appear in the Oliver Stone film, Pinkville. The Pinkville project, however, has been scrapped because of the ongoing and seemingly unending writer’s strike.

My Advice for Waitress’ Keri Russell
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Comedy, Casting, Celeb News,
Ms. Russell:
I just recently watched the DVD of release of Waitress - you know, the movie you’ve been receiving all the acclaim and Oscar buzz for. Let me first start off by saying that I thought you did an amazing job. I was really happy to see you solidify your comeback since your heydey on Felicity. (I’ll even forget that your critically panned August Rush exists.)
So now that I’ve gotten the compliments out of the way, I must now move on to the purpose of my note. I read a very disturbing piece of news the other day and I’m hoping you will dispute the rumors.
Please tell me it’s not true. Please tell me you will not be starring in a comedy with Adam Sandler.
Granted, Adam Shankman (Hairspray) is slated to helm Bedtime Stories. I understand the appeal. But I’m begging you—don’t make an about face and go backwards with your career.
If this film were on the dramatic end of the Sandler spectrum (like Reign Over Me, Spanglish or Punch-Drunk Love), you might have my support. But playing the romantic interest in any Sandler comedy hasn’t really helped anyone. Don’t align yourself with the Jessical Biels of the world. You’re better than that. And how about Kate Beckinsale? How did Click benefit her? And does anyone remember Winona Ryder’s role in Mr. Deeds?
You’ve already proven your comedic chops with your stint on Scrubs. Now it’s time to take advantage of the awards season hoopla. Don’t tempt fate now by coming anywhere near a possible Rob Schneider appearance. Please.

Will Madonna’s Daughter Join Harry Potter?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Adventure, Family, Sequels, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix isn’t even out on video yet, and already talk has turned to the sixth movie installment for the franchise. Sneak peeks of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince are already surfacing, and the casting isn’t even complete.
According to the latest Hollywood-goes-to-Britain gossip, Madonna’s daughter, Lourdes, may soon don a witch’s robe; the 11-year-old is reportedly being sought to join the next Harry-themed movie.
Famed pop singer Madonna has made plenty of forays into the acting field herself, and while her roles in movies like The Next Best Thing and Desperately Seeking Susan were roundly bashed by critics, I still say A League of Their Own is a great movie (and she was pretty good in it, too). Maybe the movie success Madonna once sought will be discovered by Lourdes. Then again, maybe not.

Christian Bale to Play John Connor in Terminator 4
Posted by Johnny Mercedes Categories: MGM, Action, Science Fiction, Sequels, Thrillers, Casting, Celeb News, Rumors, Upcoming Releases,
According to Ain’t it Cool News, The Dark Knight himself has landed the role of grown-up John Connor in the upcoming Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
As I glanced over the film’s imdb page, the seemingly random advert for the Rescue Dawn DVD flashing across the screen felt auspiciously ironic.
I never saw the third installment of the Terminator franchise, though the recently announced trilogy and Fox’s Sarah Connor Chronicles lead me to believe there’s still a growing fan base; bringing Bale on board will only strengthen T4‘s chances of success. With director McG (Charlie’s Angels, We Are Marshall) at the helm, and as long as a decent script surfaces and the aging Governator keeps his small cameo small, this casting news may bring a glint of hope to the future of the Terminator series.
Look for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins in theaters sometime in June of 2009.
UPDATE: Devin Faraci over at CHUD is now reporting that his source pegged Bale as the Terminator, and other buzz regarding the issue may point to another character entirely. Stayed
bookmarked at FilmCrunch for more info as it unfolds.

Tom Cruise: No Longer a Hot Ticket
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Drama, Box Office, Casting, Celeb News, Celebrity Gossip, Upcoming Releases,
Tom Cruise has been steadily losing the favor of public opinion. All the couch-jumping, weird Scientology associations and media hype about his marriage with Katie Holmes is starting to have an effect on his box office power, once a mighty thing. The much-hyped Lions for Lambs did not bring in the expected sales, and in Hollywood you’re only as good as your last picture.
According to MSNBC, insiders are losing faith in Cruise’s once-guaranteed popularity. His high salary, coupled with sluggish movie sales, are helping to hammer home the fact that the fans are just no longer interested in Cruise – unless, of course, he’s being featured in a tabloid. Valkyrie, an upcoming flick featuring Cruise, is already getting bad press. A trailer was “leaked” on the Internet, and instead of being met with hopeful buzz, it has suffered a much more negative fate.
