Microsoft Again Denies Xbox 360 Price Cut
Microsoft once again has addressed surfacing rumors that the Xbox 360 would see a price drop this holiday season. A report from Digitimes suggested that the Xbox 360 would receive a price cut from $399 to $299. This report quoted unidentified Taiwan suppliers. Mysterious Taiwan component suppliers have been in the limelight recently, first dropping hints that the Playstation 3 is in production and now promoting rumors of a price drop. Bloomberg spoke with Freda Lee, spokesperson for Microsoft Taiwan, who claimed, “Before the end of this year, we have no plans to cut the price of Xbox 360.” It would appear that rumors of a price drop for the Xbox 360 remain wishful thinking at this point. In all reality, the Xbox 360 already offers a fairly significant price advantage over the Playstation 3. Microsoft probably wouldn’t rule out a price drop if the Sony’s console started taking large chunks out of Microsoft’s sales. Reducing the price of the Xbox 360 may be a strategy that Microsoft would consider as a last resort.
