Philips GoGear Muse is fancy PMP

The GoGear Muse from Philips has some very interesting features including a 3-inch display, plus 16GB of internal storage space.  Its battery is good for about 25 hours worth of audio playing, and five hours of video playback.  As far as formats are concerned, the GoGear Muse can handle MP3, BMP, GIF, PNG, OGG, as well as Real Video and Real Audio formats. Cutting edge, we know. The GoGear Muse is planned to come to Singapore first for $244, after which point we’d hope to see it hit the States, although that is unlikely.

Philips has announced their GoGear line of products. Included is the Luxe MP3 player with a Bluetooth headset that allows a switch from music to call with one click. With 100 hours of battery life, FM tuner with 20 presets and caller ID, it has a price of $79.99. The Mix has a 4GB capacity, FM tuner with presets, a 25 hour battery life, USB connection and a price of $44.99.

Philips is in the midst of developing a 56-inch LCD TV with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The Cinema is supposed to be more like a film screen, which is always a good thing. The TV will feature the company’s Ambilight bordered technology. Unfortunately, unless you are in Germany, Belgium, France or the UK, the wait may be a long one. Philips is hoping to release their new creation this spring, far enough away to start stockpiling microwave popcorn and Raisinettes.

Philips Releases GoGear MP3 Players

LuxePhilips has not only put out 3 new MP3 players, they have named them as well. All three are part of their GoGear line. It includes the Spark and Raga that come in both 2 and 4GB models that are now available for about $60.00. The Luxe will be offered in January and comes in 2GB for $89.00 and 4GB for $99.00. Would that other companies would follow suit. Not only is it easier to pronounce, it’s so much easier to remember.

Philips X800Philips has come up with their answer to the iPhone shortage with the X800. The touchscreen phone has a 2.9-inch TFT display with 256K colors, QGVA with 240 x 400 pixels, 2G network GSM, and supports Bluetooth, micro SD,  and USB. It also features GPRS, a 2 MP cam with auto-focus and video, an MP3/MPEG4/WAV/AAC player, voice memo, and organizer. Expect up to 850 hrs. of standby time with 8 hrs. of talk time. Philips To Offer External BD-ROM

If you are leery of the still high priced Blu-ray disc players and recorders, Philips and Lite-On Digital Solutions (PLDS) will be soon be releasing an external BD-ROM.

Jelmer Veldman of PLDS, says “The market adoption of Blu-ray as the optical disc standard for High Definition content results in a growing demand for Blu-ray playback solutions.”

The DX-4O1S allows for playback via USB 2.0. It can read Blu-ray, single-layer DVD, dual-layer DVD, and CD media. PLDS also has an internal drive available for ~$150.00. Due out in Q2, we figure that the DVD war’s outcome somehow was no surprise to the company.

Readius Is Diminutive

ReadiusAnother reader has arrived to compete with the Kindle. The Dutch company Polymer Vision spun off from Philips and has been working for 2 years on its Readius which will hit stores sometime this year. The device is about the size of 2 credit cards, weighs about as much as a cell phone, and folds up when not in use. With its 5-inch display, you can read news, blogs, audio books, view podcasts, and catch up on your e-mail. The Readius can also make phone calls and connect online with cellphone networks, has a super-battery life, and should cost about the same as a high-end cell phone. The company also has plans to add a keypad in the future.

Times Square Ball Flashes with Multi-Colored LEDs

Times Square BallReady for New Years Eve? It may interest you to know that finally the Times Square Ball has gone green on its 100th anniversary. Unveiled at Macy’s earlier this month, the ball is constructed of Waterford crystal,  is twice as bright as past ones, and will now have more color and energy-saving LED effects thanks to Philips.

Tim Tompkins, President of the Times Square Alliance says, “It’s that same spirit of renewal and new beginnings that brings people here from across the globe, in person or in spirit while watching from home, on New Year’s Eve every year.”

Philips Releases 16 Million Colors

Philips MoodlightPhilips has designed a moodlight that can create 16 million colors. The Living Color LED can be used on ceilings or floors and comes with a remote so that you can alter its hue whenever the mood strikes you. At a size of 28.8 x 22.5 x 24.4 cm and a weight of 553 g, the company claims it has an “extremely long” life with low energy usage. We wonder if that really means long enough to find all of those colors. It’s available for €149.00 (~$211.00,) but only in Germany at this point. Feel free to pick one up for us if you plan on visiting the country this Oktoberfest.
