Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Music, Portable Audio / Video, Software

European online music service Spotify on Wednesday announced a new MP3 download service, as well as the ability to sync music on iPods and the Spotify iPhone and Android apps.
With Spotify's download service, users can purchase tracks in bundles. Ten tracks will set you back £7.99, 15 tracks will cost £9.99, 40 tracks will be £25, and 100 tracks will be £50.
"Spotify's new MP3 download service makes it possible to own your playlists in one easy step," the company said in a statement. "By introducing a range of MP3 bundles, we've been able to offer you some of the most competitive prices available—from as little as 50p per song."
Spotify features include the ability to: search, browse, and play millions of tracks; stream over Wi-Fi or 2.5/3G; access offline playlists; on-the-fly sync; a what's new tab; wireless sync of your local files to your phone; and the ability to tag favorites into a special list.
One of the most frequent requests, however, was the abilty to sync that music to Apple's iPod, something Spotify said is now a reality. Just connect an iPod to your computer via USB and it will appear in the "devices" section of the Spotify sidebar. You can then sync MP3s in your Spotify playlists to the iPod.

Apple has introduced a new iPod shuffle at their music event this morning. The new shuffle has 15 hours of battery life, and is pretty much a hybrid of the second and third generation devices. It’s small, it brings back the buttons that the third gen model lost, but keeps the voiceover features of the fourth gen model. It packs 2GB of storage space, is available in five colors, and sells for $49. You can pre-order one now, and they ship in a week.

If tw.apple.pro is to be believed, this is another leaked piece of an upcoming Apple product. What you are looking at is a 1.2-inch by 1.2-inch touchscreen display. Of course, that leaves us wondering, what the heck would Apple do with a touchscreen display this tiny? Could this be the display for the next iPod shuffle, finally bringing visual cues to that device? Could it be for an upcoming remote control? Or a watch? Something else? Let us know your thoughts!

Belkin Headphone Adapter for iPod shuffle frees you of Apple earbud hell
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Apple, Music, Peripherals, Portable Audio / Video

Remember that not-so-great day in gadget history when buyers of the iPod shuffle discovered that they could only use the official Apple earbuds, or later, third-party headphones built specifically for the device? Yeah, maybe Apple shouldn’t have put the volume controls on the headphones after all.
Fortunately, the good people of Belkin have created a headphone adapter for the iPod shuffle, which allows you to use any standard pair of headphones or earbuds. I’m sure it is not the only of its type, but it is relatively inexpensive at $20 a pop. Check it out at the Belkin site if you are a Shuffler who desires an upgrade of sound for your headphones.

Archos Clipper: Another addition to the minimalist MP3 Player market
Posted by Mark Rollins Categories: Music, Portable Audio / Video
Sure, Apple has the iPod shuffle, Creative has the Zen Stone, Sansa has the Clip, and it appears that Archos has entered this mini-MP3 Player market with the Clipper.
There is not much that can be said about this particular MP3 Player except what we have seen before in similar minimalist Portable Media Players (PMPs). That is, a simple downloading of audio files via USB, and minimal buttons for less complications. As usual, the memory is about 2GB, and the price is low at $30.

Redesigned iPod shuffle: 4GB, Buttonless, VoiceOver Text to Speech, $79
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Design, Music, Portable Audio / Video
This morning Apple unveiled a brand new, re-imagined iPod shuffle. The new shuffle hits you with 4GB of storage space, which equates to about a 1,000 song capacity, and is half the size of the previous generation iPod shuffle, which in and of itself was pretty freaking small. Another new feature is VoiceOver, which is basically a text-to-speech technology built into the shuffle. Since there is no screen, sometimes it’s hard to know what’s playing. With VoiceOver, you press a button and the shuffle will tell you the name of the song and artist, as well as the name of the playlist, if applicable. VoiceOver is available in the following languages: English, Czech, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.
The downside? For some reason Apple thought it best to move all the controls on the shuffle to the headphone cable. You simple cannot control the iPod shuffle from the actual device. This immediately limits the number of headphones available, because even if you own a pair of fantastic $150 headphones, if those headphones don’t have controls, you are screwed and left with the crap Apple headphones that ship with the device.
