Next Apple iPhone revealed!

Over the weekend, rumors that Apple’s next generation iPhone (iPhone HD?) had been uncovered due to someone leaving it in a bar in San Jose had been running rampant. Images made their way to the Internet, claims that it was a Japanese fake were made, only to be taken back later. Nothing was decisive—until this morning when my pal Jason over at Gizmodo published a complete breakdown of the phone. Yeah, it seems Gizmodo paid someone a pretty penny to get the phone into their hands, and as a result, we pretty much know all about the major features in the next iPhone, which should drop in June. Here are the immediate, obvious feature additions:
- Completely new enclosure, with a flat back that is seemingly made of glass or ceramic
- Front-facing camera (finally!)
- Higher-resolution camera on back
- Flash for camera on back
- Higher resolution, albeit slightly smaller, display
- Separate volume buttons (likely also double as dedicated camera buttons when taking photos)
- Noise cancellation mic
- Battery has 16% higher capacity
- 3 grams heavier than iPhone 3GS
- Uses a micro-SIM
It’s obvious that Apple has definitely been listening to the complaints and requests from iPhone customers, and they’ve definitely done a lot to make the next iPhone stand out from the pack. In fact, this really looks and feels like the first true step up in the iPhone line, with previous new models introducing few hardware changes over previous models.
This is a big deal, as it is the first time that we can remember a major piece of Apple hardware falling into the hands of a company outsider, let alone press, in advance of it being officially unveiled and announced - especially in this manner. We think that Apple’s chief designer said it best on Twitter earlier this morning, with a simple “This isn’t good.”

Sprint launches a 4G iPad case

Oh man, do we love how hard Sprint is pushing their 4G service, especially as it pertains to Apple devices! The latest is a new 4G iPad case, which is basically a sleeve-style cases for the iPad that also has a pocket that is specially fitted to house a Sprint Overdrive 4G hotspot. Now, Sprint is just referring to this as the “4G Case,” and they even say that it also fits the nook and other e-readers, but let’s call a spade a spade here, Sprint is trying to entice you to buy an iPad and Overdrive rather than an AT&T 3G iPad. We can’t say we disagree with that option either.
You can get a Sprint 4G case free with the purchase of a Sprint Overdrive at participating Best Buy locations. We called up four participating locations in the Seattle area though, and no one knew what the hell we were talking about. So, your mileage may vary.

iPhone OS 4.0 already jailbroken

Looks like the jailbreak app developer community can get to work on porting their apps to iPhone OS 4.0, as the current beta has already been jailbroken. However, if you aren’t a developer, don’t go trying to mess around with the redsn0w 0.9.5 beta, as this is purely a dev release. It currently only works on Mac OS X and with an iPhone 3G running iPhone 4.0 beta 1, but that’s good enough to get the devs started on getting everything up to snuff for the official release this summer.

Amazon selling new MacBook Pros at a discount

Hey, so you know those new Core i5 and i7 MacBook Pros that launched yesterday? If you are looking to pick one up, you should definitely check Amazon, as they’ve got a nice discount on all models, across the board. Here’s the breakdown:
- 13-inch MC374LL/A - $1,159.99 ($40 off)
- 13-inch MC375LL/A - $1,449.99 ($50 off)
- 15-inch MC371LL/A - $1,739.99 ($60 off)
- 15-inch MC372LL/A - $1,929.99 ($70 off)
- 15-inch MC373LL/A - $2099.99 ($100 off)
- 17-inch MC024LL/A - $2199.99 ($100 off)
Definitely not bad at all, even on the least expensive models - especially when you factor in the fact that Amazon doesn’t charge sales tax to a majority of locations that they ship to.

Apple delays international iPad sales by a month due to US demand

Looks like even Apple was caught off-guard a bit by how popular the iPad has been since the launch in the US, as the company announced earlier this morning that the international launch of the device has been delayed by a month. Apple says that more than 500,000 iPads have been sold in the first week of availability in the US, and to keep up with demand, Europe will now see the iPad in May, rather than the “late April” that was previously announced.

Apple updates MacBook Pro line with Intel Core i5 and i7 processors

It’s been a long time coming, but Apple has finally released the refreshed line of MacBook Pro notebooks that are powered by the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. The 13-inch MacBook Pro line is actually sticking with the Core 2 Duo chips, but they do bring faster 2.4GHz and 2.66GHz options, alongside a 10-hour battery. The real news here, though, is in the 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros. The 15-inch models start at $1,799 with a 2.4GHz Core i5 (520M), 320GB hard drive, 8-9 hour battery, and the 256MB NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics chip which features Optimus switching. That allows the graphics chip to automatically switch from performance mode to a low power mode on the fly, rather than having to log out and back in. The next step up in the 15-inch line nabs you a 2.53GHz Core i5 (540M) and 500GB hard drive for $1,999, while the top of the line model features the 2.66 GHz Core i7 (620M) and the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512MB RAM.
If the 17-incher is more your thing, it starts out at $2,299 with a 2.53GHz Core i5, 500GB hard drive, ExpressCard slot, and the 512MB 330M. Options for all include more RAM (they all come with 4GB by default,) and 128, 256, and 512GB SSD drives. The 15-inch models also have new display options. By default, they ship with a 1440x900 glossy display, but for an extra $100 you can get a high resolution 1680x1050 display. For another $50 on top of that, you can get the 1680x1050 with antiglare. Lastly, the new machines are capable of “inertial scrolling” on the trackpads. If you have an iPhone, it’s similar to flicking up and down to scroll.

iPad review: An in-depth look at the Apple tablet

When Apple finally revealed the iPad to the world back at their January 27th event, it was a long time coming for many an Apple fan. After almost three years with the iPhone around, everyone figured it was time for Apple to unleash a full-sized, proper tablet. However, time and time again the rumor mill was incorrect, as Apple Event after Apple Event came and went with nary a mention of a tablet device. So when the announcement finally came, and when pre-orders finally were being taken, many prepped to grab the iPad on day one. That day came on April 3 with the launch of the Wi-Fi iPad in the United States, which you can now purchase at the Apple Online Store.
The hype has been off the charts, so let’s step back for a minute and examine this thing. The iPad sits somewhere between the iPhone juggernaut and the ridiculously popular MacBook. Many have said that it is simply a “big iPod touch” and nothing more. Apple has called it “magical and revolutionary.” Who’s right?

Apple unveiling iPhone OS 4 on April 8th

Hot on the hells of the iPad launch, Apple is continuing fell speed ahead, as they’ve invited a select group of media to come get a look at the unveiling of iPhone OS 4.0. As you can see in the image, the invite has a shadow of a large number “4” figure, and invites us to “Get a sneak peek into the future of iPhone OS.” The event takes place at the Cupertino campus, it’s just 3 days away, and we are excited. Apple retail stores selling reserved iPads at 9 am this Saturday

Hey, are you one of those future iPad owners who decided to do an in-store reservation rather than relying on FedEx to get your new bundle of joy to you on day one? If so, here’s the scoop on how things will go down at your local Apple Store this Saturday, when the iPad will finally be unleashed. On April 3, Apple Stores will open at 9:00 am, at which time anyone standing in line with an iPad reservation will get to walk in and pay for their device. Apple will hold all iPads in stock for reservations until 3:00 pm that same day. After 3:00, all iPads that are left are fair game, and anyone can walk in and buy one, until they are all gone. So if you reserved and hoped to get one right away, make sure your calendar is clear this Saturday morning or afternoon, mmkay?
