Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Awards,

Oscar statues

When you throw in an extra host, add five more Best Picture nominees, take away the Best Song performances and nominate two formerly married directors—what do you get? A night that will surely be talked about.

Although many believe the will end with very few surprises, the possibility of an upset is still too great to ignore. Will the box office champ (Avatar) win Best Film as well? Or will The Hurt Locker - or even Inglourious Basterds - take the prize? Is Jeff Bridges a shoo-in for Best Actor…or could BAFTA winner Colin Firth sneak past him? Will Sandra Bullock have to deliver another acceptance speech, or will Meryl Streep take home her first Oscar since 1983?

To find out if the ceremony ends in a world of Hurt or Up in the Air, stay tuned here for the live results!

Sequel News: Sherlock Holmes, Silent Hill and More

Sherlock Holmes: Are you looking forward to seeing Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law in Sherlock Holmes? Are you already convinced the movie deserves a sequel? Although we still have to wait until Christmas to unwrap the Guy Ritchie film, Warner Bros. is already prepping for a follow-up…and word has it, Brad Pitt may be involved. Writers Kieran and Michele Mulroney (Justice League: Mortal) will most likely be tasked with writing the second installment, which may feature the Inglourious Basterds star as Moriarty, Holmes’ nemesis. Will Smith: Sequels Soon?

Will SmithPerez Hilton is reporting that fans will enjoy a few follow-ups to his former hits. In recent years, the actor has turned into one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars - and his resume can prove it. The leading man has rarely been out of theaters for more than a few weeks at a time, appearing in dramas, comedies, even action flicks without pause.

But which of his former hits is true sequel material?

According to Hilton, Hancock and I Am Legend will both make a triumphant return to the theaters for new installments to the tales. A source quoted as being an “insider” says that Smith is already locked in for another superhero tale in Hancock, but still hasn’t signed on to the project.

As to , the new movie which actually be a prequel that shows “the fall of the last great American city.” One can only assume he means New York, the setting of the first flick.

All of this isn’t completely unfounded rumor, either. Smith’s rep has confirmed at least this much: “there have been talks about both of these projects.”

Which means we can expect new Smith sequels sometime in 2010.

Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron to Play Married Couple in The Danish Girl

Nicole KidmanCharlize Theron

Oscar-winning actresses and Charlize Theron will soon be giving the Academy a lot to talk about.

In The Danish Girl, the women will join forces to play a married couple from the 1920’s. Kidman, will take on the role of Einar Wegener, a Danish man who eventually became the world’s first post-op transsexual. Theron would star as Greta Wegener, Einar’s wife.

The screenplay, which was adapted David Ebershoff’s best-selling book, is based on the real-life story of two artists who fooled the public with their popular art. Although Greta typically painted females, Einar filled in for her one of her absent models one day. This event led to Einar’s later adoption of women’s clothing…and a woman’s body.

No release date has yet been announced for the indie film.
