Comic Book Jobs: Viz Media

Vampire KnightDo you like Mrs. Doubtfire for its location? Does the idea of all day fog make you tingle? Or do you just want to drive around San Francisco like Steve McQueen in Bullitt?

And most important of all, do you like manga and anime? Because Viz Media is looking to fill two positions.

First up is an Associate Producer for the DVD division of their Animation Production team. You need the equivalent of 3-5 years experience “in delivering high quality video coordination duties related to Japanese-produced animation videos, TV programs, film, comics, or other related products.” And they’d really like it if you had experience in “coordinating and/or managing DVD, TV, post production, or Media production in an entertainment, advertising, or design department.”

Ninety percent of the job requires use of a video display terminal, so lots of extended time sitting will be demanded. You’ll have to use “standard ergonomics practices." More importantly, you must be able to "travel both domestically and internationally as needed." I like that part a lot.

Viz’s second opening is for a Magazine Sales and Marketing Associate for their Magazines team. I didn’t know Magazines were still successful enough to have a team, but Viz’s apparently are. Good for them! You’ll be working closely with the Senior Director of Magazines and the Editor-In-Chief “to achieve overall magazine sales goals and assist with the operations.”

You’ll need the following mad skillz: “the ability to manage sales reporting, including analysis of sales trends; 3-5 years of practical business experience; and magazine business experience."

Applicants to Viz are always advised that “employees may be subjected to work-related images including content such as: sexually explicit images, nudity, and graphic violence. Employees should be willing to work with this type of content.” So if you get the vapors or need a fainting couch to view mature content, this is not a place for you.

Viz generally offers “a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package including: health, dental, and vision insurances; life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance; a 401(k) plan; paid vacation and sick time;" and even a partial gym membership. That all sounds pretty sweet.

Good luck, job seekers!
