2010 Primetime Emmy Nominations

The road to the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards officially kicked off early this morning. Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara (who received a nod) and Community‘s Joel McHale (who didn’t) were the ones who had the honor of reading this year’s list of nominees.
Although Mad Men - with 17 nominations - once again topped off all dramas, 30 Rock did
notlead the comedies. Glee did. The freshman FOX series raked in a total of 19 noms, only a handful short of the overall leader. (HBO’s miniseries, The Pacific, received 24 mentions.) 30 Rock did receive 15 nominations, though, while Modern Family followed closely behind with 14.
The August 29 ceremony - which NBC will air live on both the East and West coasts - will be hosted by Jimmy Fallon. You can see a partial list of nominees after the jump.

Lost’s Matthew Fox Leaving Television After Finale

While there’s a good chance Jack Shephard will be still on the island when Lost finally wraps, there’s one place we know Matthew Fox won’t be: on television.
According to the actor, he’ll be leaving the boob tube to test out other waters. “I’m either going to make movies with filmmakers I want to work with or I’ll be doing something else entirely,” Fox claimed.

Celebs Celebrate 40 Years of Sesame Street

Celebrities are lining up to appear on the PBS children’s series Sesame Street. Though the viewers probably aren’t in the target audience for many of these A-list stars, Sesame Street holds a special place in many of our hearts. The series is celebrating its 40th season on TV, and it’s going to get a year to remember.
So far, the guest list for the season includes huge names like Jake Gyllenhaal, Adam Sandler, Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria-Parker, Ricky Gervais, Christina Applegate, Paul Rudd, Hugh Jackman, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Matthew Fox. First Lady Michelle Obama will also be putting in an appearance.

Salary Negotiations for Lost Actors

From 90210 to Hawaii, salary issues are going on everywhere.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Matthew Fox and Evangeline Lilly are the latest stars currently asking for a pay increase. The two actors - whose jobs on Lost appear to be safe - have been quietly talking to the bosses about padding their $150,000 per episode paychecks.
As one would expect, news of these negotiations have since prompted others in the cast seek their own adjustments. Considering the majority of the islanders only receive somewhere in the $80,000-$90,000 range, could we blame them?
Will these financial matters ultimately result in a castaway’s early exit? Let’s hope not!

Video: Lost Oceanic Flight 815 Crash Scenes Spliced Together

An adventurous soul decided it best to put all the different scenes from Lost surrounding the crash of Oceanic Flight 815 together into one video sequence. Throughout the first three seasons of Lost, we have seen bits and pieces of the crash from various perspectives, and we love that we can now see them all at once. It provides a unique look at was going one on in the air, as well as on two different areas of the island. From the creator:
I thought it would be interesting to show all of the different perspectives shown of the plane crashing. So I’ve edited the viewpoint from inside the plane along with Desmond not pressing the button and The Others watching from the ground. Each sequence doesn’t line up perfectly and run alongside with the exact same timings, so please excuse some creative manipulation of some events which was necessary so that as a sequence it at least made some sense. Also, as it was done hastily in iMovie, and I’m not going to even try to achieve semi-professional editing with that program, the audio just jumps between cuts. Obviously, if anyone out there can use Final Cut Pro to do a better job, please do.
Our verdict? Good enough!
Lost: Through The Looking Glass - David’s Top Five of Awesomeness

Wow! Just … wow! A few days later and my mind, she is still blown. That was everything a season finale should be: great acting, terrific twists, the wrapping up of plot threads that were developing throughout the season, and the introduction of ideas that will surely carry through the rest of next season, if not the rest of the series.
If you’ve remained a loyal Lost fan, and, really, if you’re reading this, chances are that you have, think on your friends who have given up on the show and pity them. You are the smart one. And you, like the show, are awesome. Here’s five examples of awesomeness from an episode many people are calling Lost’s best ever (and I’d have a hard time disagreeing):
BEN GETS BEATEN: A lot. Like a lot, a lot. Now, we’ve seen Ben get hurt before, but that was back before we knew who he really was. He was just poor pathetic Henry Gayle then. Since we’ve seen a season’s worse of his machinations, when Jack just started wailing on him, I yelled an obscenity at my TV followed by the word, “Yeah!” (This was a nice parallel to last season’s finale when Ben showed up on the dock while Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sawyer were being held hostage and I yelled that same obscenity followed by the word, “No!”)
Michael Emerson has put on an acting clinic this whole season, going from confident in his power but frightened about his injury to this scared, desperate animal trying to do everything he can to hold onto the little power he has left. He’s one of the best villains on television, and to see him take a beating (by Jack and Rousseau) was so, so satisfying.
Too bad it looks like, for once, he may have been telling the truth. But more on that later. Ben getting beaten up was awesome.

Three New Back-to-Back Episodes of Saturday Night Live

If you’re wondering when there is going to be another new episode of Saturday Night Live, wonder no more. December is going to deliver the gift of three new episodes with some promising guest hosts. Kicking off the month on December 2nd, Lost star Matthew Fox hosts with Tenacious D as the musical guest. Predictions on whether or not there will be a Lost sketch? On December 9th, Annette Bening will host with musical guest Gwen Stefani, who is promoting her second solo album. I’m looking forward to Bening’s debut appearance—she really has impeccable timing and it will be interesting to see what they throw at her. And, to round out the month, the December 16th episode will feature Justin Timberlake as both host and musical guest. Timberlake appeared in 2003 and did a surprisingly good job—he is really up for just about anything and it’s a lot of fun to watch him give it his all.
I know, I know, SNL can often fail to please… but that hasn’t stopped me from watching it ever since I was a kid waaaay back when. For all the mediocre sketches, there are always bound to be gems. It’s a television institution, for goodness sake.
