Quote of the Day: Richard Chamberlain on Actors Coming Out of the Closet

Richard Chamberlain on Brothers & Sisters

"It’s complicated. There’s still a tremendous amount of homophobia in our culture. It’s regrettable, it’s stupid, it’s heartless, and it’s immoral, but there it is. For an actor to be working is a kind of miracle, because most actors aren’t, so it’s just silly for a working actor to say, 'Oh, I don’t care if anybody knows I’m gay' — especially if you’re a leading man. Personally, I wouldn’t advise a gay leading man–type actor to come out. ... Despite all the wonderful advances that have been made, it’s still dangerous for an actor to talk about that in our extremely misguided culture. Look at what happened in California with Proposition 8. Please, don’t pretend that we’re suddenly all wonderfully, blissfully accepted."

-Openly gay actor Richard Chamberlain discouraging other gay actors to come out of the closet. (Chamberlain can currently be seen playing Ron Rifkin's love interest on Brothers & Sisters.)

American Idol Ruined By Homosexuality? Christian Newswire Says Yes

In this week’s installment of Extremely Offensive Articles, we have Christian Newswire’s director - for all the world to read - that American Idol is struggling with ratings because Ellen DeGeneres is gay.

According to director Gary McCullough: “I am confident that the producers of American Idol will be shocked when their market share has cratered, and will in all honesty find a dozen other reasons for the drop in ratings. After all, what successful television producer could have a clue what wholesomeness is as long as they see promoting homosexuality as a virtue?”

In the article, McCullough writes “[Ellen] DeGeneres’ ‘Yes, I have loved a woman,’ comment from the , was the most obvious lesbian-one-liner, but it wasn’t the only one, and it is hurting the show’s ratings.”

Furious yet? Just wait - it actually gets worse!

Will There Be A Male-Male Couple on DWTS?

Lance BassIf you thought talk about Paula Abdul trying to get on Dancing with the Stars was controversial, this piece of gossip might just top that one.

According to the New York Daily News, Lance Bass could soon become the second performer from ‘N Sync (the first being ) to demonstrate his dancing skills on the DWTS floor. The twist? The openly gay singer may supposedly be assigned to male partner.

While I have no problems with the reality show wanting to diversify (I don’t think they’ve even had an openly gay celebrity up until this point), do the producers really need to try the stunt pairing? Would this whole thing be more distracting than its worth? Shouldn’t Lance want to be judged on his own merits? And how exactly would the judges score any possible lifts anyway?

Then again - this all could just be a wild rumor. (Fingers still crossed.) You can expect the final lists of Season 7 contenders to be released sometime in August.

T.R. KnightI can’t believe this qualifies for big news—and People magazine says they have the ‘Exclusive.’ As if matters of one’s sexuality are newsworthy enough to be considered exclusive stories—why can’t people just leave gay/not gay out of the equation? Yet, here I am reporting the news as well for anyone interested—, of Grey’s Anatomy, made a statement to People magazine today saying that he is gay. Knight plays Dr. George O’Malley on the series, and has also been seen on CSI:Crime Scene Investigation and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. According to Knight’s statement, “I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I’d like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there. While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.” Well said.
