Erik Estrada Receives Hollywood Star

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Reality, News,

Erik Estrada I’m not knockin on Ponch, but I was surprised to hear that Erik Estrada just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. I would have thought that a celeb would have to have a more illustrious career to be honored with a star, but I’m seeing that’s not the case. Again, that’s not a dig on Estrada. I grew up on CHiPs—but has he had much high-profile work since then? A peek at IMDB shows that he’s had a steady flow of acting gigs, but nothing terribly notable. His most recent appearance was on the short-lived reality show Armed & Famous. During the star ceremony, he reflected on how CHiPs fulfilled his dreams, saying, “One, of course, a certain amount of success in the entertainment business, for which I really am extremely grateful and I’m very proud. But equally important, it represents my childhood dream of becoming a police officer.”

Armed & Famous Gets the Axe

Erik EstradaSeems the writing was on the wall for Armed & Famous from the get-go. As far as reality series go, this premise was a doozy. B-list celebs helping to keep the peace as police officers in Muncie, Indiana—well, I suppose there are worse reality shows on, but this one seemed particularly ill-fated. When the highlight of the short-lived series is watching celebrities get tasered, you know it’s got nowhere to go but down. And down it goes. After just four episodes, CBS has canceled the series. The show featured La Toya Jackson, Jack Osbourne, Erik Estrada, Wee Man, and Trish Stratus. With stiff competition from American Idol how did the show even stand a chance? The debut episode drew 8.1 million viewers, but ratings quickly slid, and by the third week numbers were down to 5.8 million. If the cancellation has you feeling blue, fear not. VH1 will air the next episode this weekend; the remaining two episodes may make it to the music video network as well.

Midwest Town Worried About ‘Armed & Famous’ Celebs

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, CBS,

Erik EstradaHas anyone else checked out the latest reality show entry, Armed & Famous? Nah, me neither—and it has some folks in the town where it takes place a bit concerned. If you’re not familiar with it, Armed & Famous gives some B-list celebrities guns and minimal police training, then lets them hit the streets of Muncie, IN to enforce the law. While they are accompanied by real police offers, residents of the town are worried that the show will tarnish their reputation. And who wouldn’t be worried? The celebrities include Erik Estrada (who came the closest of the other celebs when he played a cop on CHiPs), La Toya Jackson, Jack Osbourne, wrestler Trish Stratus, and Jackass star “Wee Man.” The show hasn’t received much love from critics either, with New York Post critic Linda Stasi saying, “Maybe they should have called it Armed & Stupid.” The highlight for Stasi was when the stars had to be hit with a 50,000 volt Taser stungun. Hmmm, maybe they should make a reality show out tasering celebs.
