Consuelos Gets His Own Piece of the Spotlight

Though he’s probably more famously known as Mr. Ripa, plenty of fans will still recognize Mark Consuelos from ABC’s All My Children. The former daytime star will be in the spotlight as the host NBC’s new reality dating drama, Age of Love. Though the concept sounds frighteningly similar to the bevy of other love-related shows out there, Age of Love puts at least one twist on an age-old reality setup. Imagine one 30-year-old hunk (Australian tennis star Mark Philippoussis) and a group of women all vying for his affection. Now imagine that the women are separated into two distinct categories: 20-somethings and 40-somethings. Now, that might be something.

NBC Offers Plenty of Summer Reality Programming

Sigh. The reality show possibilities have really taken off, huh? Hold on, because NBC is promising to serve up loads of reality this summer with the return of America’s Got Talent, Last Comic Standing and The Biggest Loser, plus Age of Love, a new dating show. To shake things up a bit, the three returning shows will have new hosts. You may have already heard that Jerry Springer will be filling Regis Philbin’s shoes on Talent, beginning on May 29th at 9 p.m. After a two hour debut, the show moves to Tuesday at 8 p.m. Last Comic Standing finally brings in a fresh host to replace Anthony Clark—and although I’d rather see Jay Mohr come back, instead hosting duties go to Bill Bellamy. To which I say “eh, could be worse.” Comic starts its fifth season on June 13th at 9 p.m. The Biggest Loser will now be hosted by soap opera queen Alison Sweeney (taking over for Caroline Rhea). No word yet on when the show will start. And finally, a new dating show called Age of Love debuts on June 18th at 10 p.m. with Mrs. Kelly Ripa (Mark Consuelos) hosting.
