True Predictions: Bengals, Kurt Warner, and the Underachievement Bowl

Ouch, I go 1-4 this past weekend. Here are my excuses…I mean, reasons. A) I guess I can’t trust Bill Belichick as the New England Patriots lost to the Miami Dolphins, B) I should have known I couldn’t trust Wade Phillips and Tony Romo as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the New York Giants, C) I have to claim Thanksgiving turkey withdrawal for going with a Matt Ryan-less Atlanta Falcons over the Philadelphia Eagles (but was it visions of Xmas Past with Michael Vick?), D) Kurt Warner manned-up and the Arizona Cardinals are making the chase for the NFC crown a three-horse race. Only the Indianapolis Colts rang true and beat the Tennessee Titans. The season record runs to 36-26.

True Predictions: Wild Card Wannabes, Titans vs. Colts, Cowboys and Vikings

On the way to a 3-2 record from last weekend True Predictions threw out these claims: a) “the Saints will have no trouble with New England,” and b) “it will be Hail, Hail Vince Young in Tennessee’s win over Arizona.” Our third win featured the Indianapolis Colts coming from behind to defeat the under-performing Houston Texans. The Pittsburgh Steelers and substitute QB Dennis Dixon played well enough to win (other than an INT in OT), but the Baltimore Ravens took the victory. The Jacksonville Jaguars needed to show us something in San Francisco, but instead it was the 49ers that were more impressive. The season record on my predictions runs to 35-22.

True Predictions: Steelers, Vikings, Bengals and the Los Angeles Jaguars

My record runs to 15–11 after going 3–2 last weekend. Why I ever back a Norv Turner team is a mystery to me. The Denver Broncos are out of the barn! Can they be placed back in? Their defense smothered the San Diego Chargers on Monday night. Their toughest upcoming games will be home games against the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants, plus a road game against the Indianapolis Colts. The Arizona Cardinals showed some grit and beat the Seattle Seahawks up in the Northwest. The New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, and Minnesota Vikings came away with predicted victories.

True Predictions: Jets, Patriots, Tony Romo, NFL in L.A.

Last week I went 3–2 with my predictions: The New York Jets have arrived early for both me and the New England Patriots. The Manning Brothers, Eli and Peyton, proved true to the pedigree with both leading great fourth quarter drives (I didn’t pick the New York Giants, but did pick the Indianapolis Colts) for the win.The Chicago Bears beat the Pittsburgh Steelers on a fourth quarter victory drive; I figured they’d want/need this one more. Yes, I predicted that the Baltimore Ravens would beat the San Diego Chargers. Gotta love Norv Turner’s decision-making. USC head coach Pete Carroll would love San Diego, wouldn’t he? And he’s seen the old Teflon take some hits at USC, right?

NFL Preview: Dallas Cowboys

2007 RECORD: 13-3
Overview: Expectations in Big D are sky-high and no one is going to be happy with anything less than a Super Bowl ring. The past two years have seen the Dallas Cowboys bow out of the playoffs before their time. Two years ago it was Tony Romo fumbling a PAT snap; last year it was losing to the Giants, a team they scored 76 points against in two regular season games. There is a whole lotta ego in the locker room, and one thing for sure is that the Cowboys will not have a quiet 2008.
